It's the second song today co-written by Ryan Tedder (following 'Revolving door'). And, similarly, the bridge is the standout part again. As the trend currently seems to be making songs short as possible, it feels like the bridge has been the biggest loser but 'Lucky' is only 2 minutes and 28 seconds but still finds time for a rocking bridge which I'm hoping others can learn from. There's some interesting production on this, I feel like not many pop songs have prominent guitar in recent times but they really add so much here. Best Part: The self-referential bridge

It does have the slight feeling of a great 'TikTok' hype video that never got properly built-upon into a proper song. But I do really enjoy the bit we did get. For such a short song, you don't think there'll be enough time for the featured artist to shine but Gracie completely steals the song for me. I know she may not be the most popular on here but I think this songs fits her really well and her personality shines through her verse. Best Part: Gracie's personality shining through her verse

With one of the loudest, brashest openings of the year, the songs wrong-foots you from the start which is why I feel like this isn't a song I fully got instantly. Its one of those that slowly wins you over on repeat listens and that's why it stuck around my chart, despite only one week in the top 10 at #10 and ended up with more listens than the songs that surround it in this countdown. Kim has said that this track was inspired by Avicii and LMFAO and I can definitely hear the latter in parts of this. I'll be back tomorrow with the next batch of 5. She had the perfect springboard to promote this track to me as I saw her perform it live while supporting Dua Lipa just two days before its release. There's definitely some Lady Gaga vibes in a couple of her releases this year with this incorporating theatrical elements and experimental, darker tones. One thing I really appreciated from seeing her live is how much effort she put into choreography and including her backing dancers, especially for a supporting slot, and the the choreo for 'Romeo' was particularly inspired.Best Part: Seeing it performed live pre-release to build the hype

There's a pulsating rhythm to this that just makes you move and it's very deserving of rewarding Maren with her first EOY top 100 hit here. It returned to my chart for two final weeks after I saw Maren live on tour in a wonderfully intimate venue in November. If you ever get a chance to go to a gig at the Albert Hall in Manchester then I'd urge you to go. It's a grade II listed building originally built for religion which makes it a fascinating architecturally and you feel close to the action whether you chose to stand or sit in the benches above.Best Part: Experiencing it live in a intimate setting

I'll try and keep this one short and sweet because trying to find 12 different things to say about someone, no matter how big of a fan of them I am, is quite difficult. I think she has a great ability for knowing a good melody and writing a catchy hook for it and 'Take It or Leave It' is no exception. As you can see above the whole EP is within my top 25 played songs of the year so this is only really being ranked this low to avoid her dominating the top of my chart too much. A #2 official hit, this is the biggest song to appear on the list so far so it's no surprise to see the king of pop, Max Martin in the production credits. There's nothing too flashy here. It's just a well-written, well-produced, happy-sounding pop track. It's kinda what I was expecting the album to sound like when I heard she was going back to Max. It's no surprise that this is widely-regarded as one of the high points of the album.Best Part: The strong percussive beat that hits throughout the song

To quote Maisie Peters, I think it's clear who 'won the breakup' as this was a worldwide smash while I doubt many people could even name the Kid LAROI track. I love how direct this track is; most artists would to slightly vague in these type of tracks to give a sense of plausible deniability if asked about in interviews but there's nothing ambiguous here. I didn't have high expectations for this turn but it actually really works. Everything about this release is just cute, especially the visualiser video that shows a montage of Dove's favourite moments of last summer. There has been a slightly cynical tone in a lot of pop music really (which I do enjoy) so it's sometimes nice to have something that is just really comfortably positive. The one thing I would question is why Dove thinks Tony Soprano is a romantic character to compare her boyfriend to. Best Part: The simply sweet vibe

The highlight was the lead single 'Ace Trumpets'. Despite Pusha kicking off with one of the cringiest lines of the year ("Yellow diamonds look like pee-pee"), the rest of the song is immaculate, first-class Hip-Hop. Malice has my favourite verse of the year. It's a deceivingly simple rhyme-scheme that he keeps through the whole verse but he fills it with enough quotables that it almost feels like a chorus with how easy it is to rap-along-to. Best Part: The flow of Malice in his verse

This one has landed lower than it's chart run would suggest but I feel like this one was charting more on name and being her comeback song rather than the quality of the song and when the songs from the new album came out, they shown how average this one really is. Not that it's bad, it just a bit lite compared to her usual stuff. It still keeps the same production style and was a good addition for the film to add to its soundtrack.Best Part: The vocal effect on her voice in the chorus

However, that run is over this year as 'ROCK & ROLL' is their only entry in this list after reaching #4 in my weekly chart. They left this one late with it only releasing in October. This is the second time one of their Japanese singles has made my EOY chart after 'Voltage' (#100) in 2022. They actually released a Korean EP only one month later (as well as another earlier in the year) but they were both rare releases by them that didn't click with me. 'ROCK & ROLL' isn't a highlight in their discography or anything but it's more traditionally their sound compared to the quite experimental Korean releases his year and I think it suits them more. I love that they all get a chance to shine on this one too which isn't always the case on their bigger songs. They are actually out-charted by a solo-member track this year. Best Part: Becoming their first EOY hit in my charts since LIA returned from hiatus

I've read that this was originally intended to be a track on 'Snow Angel' but I think it fits the attitude of 'BITE ME' more. It doesn't feel like you'd need to do much work to adapt this to instead be a Sabrina Carpenter smash-single. The top YouTube comment says this is Regina George coded and I can't help but agree.Best Part: The cameo her IRL girlfriend in the second verse
