February 7Feb 7 I've give this two full listens now and, with how long is been hyped up for, I don't think it ever could really live up fully to the expectations but for a 24-track, 100 minute project, it's remarkably consistent through-out. There's a few of the more melodic tracks that start to blend into one another but it never dips below a 7/10 throughout the whole run. I don't think it'll ever by favourite by Cole but I still think I will be playing it regularly. It's a slight concept-album with it exploring Cole's thoughts and feelings on two trips back to visit his hometown of Fayetteville. Disc 1 being when he was 29 and Disc 2 being 39. Disc 1 is probably my favourite as it has the higher proportion of the stand-out tracks. Disc 2 is full of interpolations, I recognised Outkast, T.I., DMX, JLO and Common but I'm sure there was more. I also enjoyed Cole rapping like old-school Slim Shady in the second verse of 'WHO TF IZ U'. The DMX-interpolating 'Life Sentence' is my favourite track so far. The hook is undeniable and Cole does it justice. I'm feeling like the biggest hit may end up being 'Run A Train' because I've already heard so many people talking about whether it was Future on the chorus
February 21Feb 21 Lol I was just writing some thoughts about this album in the Hot 100 thread and thought I'd probably better post in the thread for the actual album - coming back here and I see the song Lewis highlighted as his favourite is actually my least favourite (I also thought disc 2 was stronger than disc 1 on the whole).'The Fall-Off Is Inevitable' was the perfect song to use for the trailer for the album, I think that might be the best song he's ever made for me. Per my post in the Hot 100 thread I enjoyed the album as a whole (albeit not listened to as an album experience, I just listened to every song individually with interruptions from Bad Bunny and a couple of others x) much more than I expected considering I have usually enjoyed Cole more as a feature artist than his own songs. My favourite aside from the aforementioned is probably 'I Love Her Again', some really compelling storytelling on that one as well.
