Posted February 2Feb 2 Hi all! This thread is the thread for covering Skiing at the Winter Olympics this year. This includes the following: Alpine Skiing, Cross-country skiing, Freestyle skiing, Nordic combined, Ski jumping. and making its debut in the Winter Olympics, skiing mountaineering. Feel free to discuss all the ins and outs of the disciplines, any predictions you may have, support for the competitors and other remarks you may have as we kick off on Saturday.
February 2Feb 2 I noticed that Team GB aren't sending any female alpine skiers to the Olympics - seems a little strange given that we managed to get two in the Top 30 at last year's World Championships!
February 3Feb 3 Author American downhill skier Lindsey Vonn says she has ruptured her left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) but is still "very hopeful" she can compete at the Winter Olympics in Italy. The 41-year-old was airlifted to hospital in Switzerland on Friday after crashing in the final World Cup race before the Games. The former Olympic champion said her knee feels "stable, strong and is not swollen" and she feels "confident" she will make the women's downhill event in Cortina on Sunday."This is obviously not what I hoped for. I have been working really hard to come into these Games in a much different position," she said in a media conference on Tuesday.
February 4Feb 4 Been catching up on this mornings Men's Downhill training runs - the track looks very difficult and you can see the riders easing off in places.
February 4Feb 4 That is concerning, but feels like a bit of a trend unfortunately with everything warming up - remembering in particular the women's slalom at last year's World Championships where almost two thirds of the field didn't finish the first run.And yeah not great for Lindsey Vonn when she was just coming back into form - hopefully it is only a minor injury.

Most of them finished their runs this morning (I didn't watch all 45 runs as I got bored after about 25) - of what I saw there was only one non-finisher but obviously the times were relatively slow compared to what they will be in active competition. At least for Lindsey Vonn she's at the stage in her career where she can put it all in at this one and not be to worried about future non-Olympic competition - the commentary team (who were very good it has to be said) mentioned a number of Men's Skiers who are sitting the Olympics out in the interest of prolonging their careers while recovering from injury.
February 4Feb 4 Fair enough - I hadn't seen the runs today, just going off your descriptions and what I'd seen in recent years!
February 5Feb 5 Women's Downhill training run has been cancelled due to heavy snowfalls. The men's Downhill training run at a different location will go ahead.
Saturday at 14:085 days Author Franjo von Allmen was crowned the first champion of the 2026 Winter Olympics as Italians Giovanni Franzoni and Dominik Paris won their nation's first medals in the downhill.Von Allmen blazed down the iconic Stelvio in a time of one minute 51.61 seconds, 0.20 seconds quicker than fellow 24-year-old Franzoni.Paris, the veteran on the podium at 36, was half a second slower than Von Allmen as he pipped Swiss great and runaway World Cup leader Marco Odermatt to the bronze medal.
Saturday at 20:084 days Just caught up with this - great to see a full downhill live on Freeview, love the drama and the action! A cracking win for Von Allman, and Franzoni really cementing the position he's pit himself in in the races earlier in the year. The local knowledge must have helped for Paris as well. Surprised to see Odermatt not medalling though
Sunday at 11:064 days Lindsay Vonn down on the course during her comeback, sad :/Had fun watching the downhill so far, it's a great event, in part because of those insane speeds
Sunday at 14:124 days Author Musgrave finishes 10th and Davies finishes 16th in the Men’s 10km and 10km Skiathlon.
Sunday at 14:184 days Author Weren't really great to see replays of Vonn's crash when she clearly still down.
Monday at 19:142 days Just caught up on the women's downhill - awful crash for Vonn, hopefully she recovers soon! Other than that it was a fairly by-the-books race.
