Brief commentary

Nearly 4 months into the year and finally there's new music worth sticking on repeat. It comes at the same time as the annual record label super rinse of Record Store Day. These events have caused 12 new entries and 3 re-entries to this week's tracks chart, and 3 new entries to the albums chart. The Darkness' 2nd album reissue also climbs a place due to the purchase of the separated live tracks on vinyl for Record Store Day. The 17 tracks on the discs have been transferred into streaming points for this week's chart tracking. Despite all the freshness, Queen remain on top of both charts for a 4th week with aspects of the Queen II reissues. The Lady Gaga takeover I anticipated 2 weeks ago has turned into not even a chart position as of today. That may change by the time the Prada film is out in a fortnight!

Chart rules

The Tracks chart is based on the top 20 most streamed tracks/new versions of tracks, first issued during the last 12 months. All eligible mixes are combined into one entry. The tracking period is the 4 weeks leading up to the Thursday 11:59pm before the chart issue date. No more than 3 tracks per artist album. No track can re-enter if it already spent a total of 10+ weeks on the chart during its previous run(s).

The Albums chart is based on the top 10 most streamed albums/specially re-issued albums released in the last 12 months. The tracking period is the 4 weeks leading up to the Thursday 11:59pm before the chart issue date. The number of tracks on an album I've purchased during the week leading up to the chart date is translated into the same number of streams to partially make up for them not actually being streamed/acknowledge the value of a purchase over a mere stream. These additional points are only counted on the first chart after delivery day.

I gave the Kim Petras song a listen but I think it'll take a few more plays for me to get into it.

Can't wait to hear whatever's lifted next from Confessions II as part one is one of my favourite albums ever.
