Ariana Grande’s ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me’ Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

By Gary Trust | 6/8/2026

Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” bounds in at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the pop superstar’s milestone 10th career leader on the chart. She ties for the 10th-most No. 1s over the survey’s history.

The song previews Grande’s eighth studio album, Petal, due July 31.

Plus, as Grande wrote and produced “Hate That I Made You Love Me” with Max Martin and ILYA, Martin extends his record for the most Hot 100 No. 1s among producers — 28 — in the chart’s archives. He continues to boast the second-most leaders among writers — 30 — after only Paul McCartney’s 32.

“Hate That I Made You Love Me,” on Republic Records, totaled 23.6 million official streams, 18.9 million radio airplay audience impressions and 70,000 sold in the U.S. from its May 29 release through June 4; its official video premiered June 1.

The single debuts at No. 3 on the Streaming Songs chart; No. 25 on Radio Songs; and No. 1 on Digital Song Sales, with 55,000 of its overall sales from downloads. The song was available for digital purchase via seven options: its original version and its “Ari lyric draft from bed,” “bad news montage,” “live from rehearsal,” “melody pass,” a cappella and instrumental mixes. Its physical versions up for purchase encompassed “dandelion white” and “fluffy tail gray” cassettes and 7” vinyls and a cappella and instrumental CDs. Plus, its original and “bunny hop montage” versions were posted to streaming services.

Grande earns her 10th Hot 100 No. 1. She tallies her eighth No. 1 debut, tying Taylor Swift for the most among women; Drake leads all acts with 10 chart-topping entrances.

Ariana Grande’s Hot 100 No. 1s:

“Hate That I Made You Love Me,” one week at No. 1 to date, June 13, 2026*

“We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),” one, March 23, 2024*

“Yes, And?,” one, Jan. 27, 2024*

“Die for You,” with The Weeknd, one, March 11, 2023

“Save Your Tears,” with The Weeknd, two weeks, beginning May 8, 2021

“Positions,” one, Nov. 7, 2020*

“Rain on Me,” with Lady Gaga, one, June 6, 2020*

“Stuck With U,” with Justin Bieber, one, May 23, 2020*

“7 Rings,” eight, beginning Feb. 2, 2019*

“Thank U, Next,” seven, beginning Nov. 17, 2018*

*No. 1 debut

Grande ties for the 10th-most Hot 100 No. 1s all-time, joining a dozen other acts with double-digit totals. Here’s the leaderboard:

20, The Beatles

19, Mariah Carey

14, Drake

14, Rihanna

14, Taylor Swift

13, Michael Jackson

12, Madonna

12, The Supremes

11, Whitney Houston

10, Ariana Grande

10, Janet Jackson

10, Bruno Mars

10, Stevie Wonder

Meanwhile, dating to Grande’s first Hot 100 leader, she passes Swift’s nine for the most among all acts in that span.

Grande cowrote and coproduced “Hate That I Made You Love Me” with Max Martin and ILYA. She earns her 10th Hot 100 No. 1 as a writer and third as a producer. ILYA adds his fourth leader in both roles.

Martin extends his mark for the most leaders among producers ever on the chart: 28.

Most Hot 100 No. 1s Among Producers:

28, Max Martin

23, George Martin

18, Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald

16, James “Jimmy Jam” Harris III

16, Terry Lewis

Martin has the second-most Hot 100 No. 1s among writers, with his 30 trailing only Paul McCartney’s 32.

Most Hot 100 No. 1s Among Writers:

32, Paul McCartney

30, Max Martin

26, John Lennon

18, Mariah Carey

18, Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald

Max Martin first ruled the Hot 100 both as a producer and writer when Britney Spears’ debut smash, “…Baby One More Time,” hit No. 1 on the Jan. 30, 1999-dated chart.

Grande has the two of the last three Hot 100 No. 1s with the word “love” in their titles, with “Hate That I Made You Love Me” following Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” (in November 2024) and her “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).”

The word “hate” appears in a leading Hot 100 song title for the first time. It outperforms “Hate It or Love It,” by The Game featuring 50 Cent, a No. 2 hit in 2005. (Plus, Johnny Hates Jazz sent its pop classic “Shattered Dreams” to No. 2 in 1988.)

The score for songs with a form of “love” in their names vs. songs with “hate” atop the Hot 100? It’s 124 to one (with even the first such latter No. 1 also including “love,” thanks to Grande).

The word “love” first contributed to the title of a Hot 100 leader when the Teddy Bears’ “To Know Him, Is to Love Him” notched three weeks at No. 1 in December 1958, four months after the chart began.

“Love has always been pop music’s go-to theme,” reminds Hit Songs Deconstructed.

Plus, with “Hate That I Made You Love Me” ushering in Grande’s album Petal, she extends her unprecedented streak of debuting the first single from each of her proper studio albums in the Hot 100’s top 10. Here’s a rundown.

Album, Lead single, Hot 100 debut/peak if different, Year:

Petal, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” No. 1, 2026

Eternal Sunshine, “Yes, And?,” No. 1, 2024

Positions, “Positions,” No. 1, 2020

Thank U, Next, “Thank U, Next,” No. 1, 2018

Sweetener, “No Tears Left To Cry,” No. 3, 2018

Dangerous Woman, “Dangerous Woman,” No. 10/8, 2016

My Everything, “Problem,” feat. Iggy Azalea, No. 3/2, 2014

Yours Truly, “The Way,” feat. Mac Miller, No. 10/9, 2013

In addition to being Grande’s 10th Hot 100 No. 1, “Hate That I Made You Love Me” is her 24th top 10. She last added to her total in December 2024 with “Santa Tell Me”; her 2014 carol hit a No. 5 best this past holiday season.

Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” holds at No. 2 on the Hot 100 following 10 weeks at No. 1, beginning in February. It continues for a 28th week atop the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart.

Plus, Langley’s “Be Her” dips 3-4 on the Hot 100 after reaching No. 2, and her “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” with Morgan Wallen, jumps 13-9 after it debuted at its No. 7 high.

Drake claims two songs in the Hot 100’s top 10: “Janice STFU” falls to No. 3 after spending its first two weeks on the chart at No. 1, and “Shabang” slides to No. 8 after logging its first two weeks at No. 4. “Janice STFU” adds a third week at No. 1 on Streaming Songs (26.7 million, down 15%) and the multimetric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts.

Olivia Dean also charts two songs in the Hot 100’s top 10: “Man I Need” (10-6, after peaking at No. 2) and “So Easy (To Fall in Love)” (steady at No. 7, after reaching No. 5).

Bruno Mars’ “I Just Might” pushes 8-5 on the Hot 100 after three weeks at No. 1 between January and March. It tops Radio Songs for a 16th week (70.5 million, up 2%) and the multimetric Hot R&B Songs chart for a 21st week. On the former, he extends his longest reign; on the latter, the song passes his 2017 leader “That’s What I Like” for his longest run at No. 1.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Tame Impala and JENNIE’s “Dracula” returns to its No. 10 high, from No. 14, as it leads the multimetric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for a 22nd week and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs for a fifth week.
