It's my 1500th number one since I debuted my charts with Hey Jude on top - The Beatles were back in the UK chart last week purely to celebrate my ongoing personal chart obsession, I'm sure that's why! But no re-charting for me, it's had several runs already, unlike 1967's Zabadak! The Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tick has finally charted 59 years late due to me not having a chart in 1967 but it would def have done the trick if I had, it was one of my many song obsessions of that year, love the tune. Still do. And that means the band get a 4th number one after first getting a number 2 in 1968 with The Wreck Of The Antoinette - all 4 of them as oldies which hadnt previously charted. There's still a chance for 1969's Don Juan, which also didnt chart as I was living half a world away from the UK charts at the time, up to 4 and sounding great.

Rose Gray therefore slips a slot but is still strong, as are the whole top 10, even those dropping. My packed Hot 100 is still mostly comprised of climbers jostling for higher chart peaks, but there's still some new ones barging in: New Radicals are back after a gap of 28 years! Topping my chart in 1998 with the classic You Get What You Give, mainman Gregg Alexander opying instead to write songs for other acts. One of those many acts was Santana, who were gifted the fab The Game Of Love with Michelle Branch on lead vocal. That topped my chart in 2002. The new version also has Michelle on board, but is a duet now and more indierockpop than smooth jazzrock, and enters at 58.

The numbers of older pop stars dying continues to be sadly weekly events these days, there have been 3 since I compiled this chart, but for now we celebrate Kathy Dooley of 70's family pop group The Dooleys who passed away aged 70. Their two best records return, the ABBA-esque Wanted at 71, and their debut 1977 goodie Think I'm Gonna Fall In Love With You at 87. Wanted went top 3 in 1979 and still is a banger. Two songs started selling on downloads for some reason, both oldie chart-topper faves from the 2000's, so they are back again: Simply Red's Sunrise at 73 and Sonique's 2000 smash that didnt hit big in the late 90's at first, It Feels So Good.

That leaves two more newies, The Shires' Watching Me Watching You being their first entry since 2022, their 4th in 11 years, and Carly Rae Jepsen with On Wires, her first in 3 years, and her 10th since 2012 debut Call Me Maybe went top 5.
