'Girlfriend' has been named as the lead single from Avril's 3rd album 'The Best Damn Thing'.

The song is described by Avril herself as being "fun, fast, hard, cocky and playful" and in an edition of 'Rolling Stones Magazine' is described as featuring 'hip-hop beats and punk rock gutairs'.

The song was produced by Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald. Blender Magazine described it as "the perfect pop-punk single." The single was set for release on January 29th 2007, but has reportedly been pushed back due to the success of current single "Keep Holding On" . The video will world premiere on TRL on February 19th with a UK release expected for mid March. The album will follow in April.

I hope it's good. Anytime I hear Avril + hip-hop in the same sentence I get wary and worried. I just hope she hasn't done a Furtado. [Not that that's bad as it works for her, but I don't think it could for Avril.]

The video is due to premier worldwide this month and I read that it should be on US radio this week? :unsure:

On first listen i dont like it reminds me of Hey Mickey :o hopefully it will grow

I actually think 'Girlfriend,' is quite a good single actually, when people were saying it sounded like 'Hey Mickey,' I was expecting to be dissapointed but it's much more edgier. :)

She has definitley made a catchy single to return with this time, I liked 'Don't Tell Me,' when I first heard that but it still makes that look like quite a boring debut single from an album. :lol:
