The song has three meanings. One meaning is about overall poverty. It tells a story of how a girl goes to her home and no one is there, and she cries as she lives on the streets. The second meaning is that the girl goes to her home and realizes that her family, friends and the people she cares about are no longer there for her. "Nobody's Home" doesn't mean "the Home of Nobody"; it means "Nobody is Home". The lyrics She wants to go home, but nobody's home are perhaps personifications (somewhat) of how sometimes parents who are, to an extreme point, over-protective and downright archaic, might kick out their child from the house after doing something disgraceful; dropping out of school, taking drugs daily, under-age sex, or even pre-mature pregnancy.

Some believe the song was written about Amy Lee, the lead singer of Evanescence, the band co-writer Ben Moody belonged to. This, however, has not been proven and is probably not the case. Moody left Evanescence during a European tour over apparent creative differences with bandmate Amy Lee. Lee insists she has not spoken to Moody in the last few years, apart from a brief and unexpected meeting at the Grammy Awards in 2004, and has no desire to get in touch.

However, the music video follows the poverty theme (although it may be noted that the second meaning could be inferred to in the video: there is a scene where the poor Avril makes a phone call and is answered by an old lady; since we don't hear either the woman or Avril make a comment, it might have simply been a wrong number.)

I think this is a very deep song - lyrics wise. Overall not one of my favourites and I've always been confused as to why Avril fans seem to love it so much. But I find the part about Amy Lee very interesting obv. :P

Any opinions?

Love your sig. :kink:

Who's gonna break your heart? Not that slimy son of a b**ch Alanis Morrisette? :o

Anyway yeah I agree. 'Nowhere to go to dry her eyes' is that even though people are there she has to cry to herself because they don't understand her.

Oooh I think I relate to this song more now. :kink:
