Well I'm all for it! At first glance I was going to comment "Why does sexuality have to come into this?" but then you look at the amount of homophobia in American Hip-Hop and how you never get anyone who 'fights back' so it's good to see there is someone who will actually come and 'diss' them for those kind of remarks. The Racism that used to be in Hip-Hop (well it still kind of is) is not as much as it used to be and what I mean is that fact that americans see R&B and Hip-Hop as 'black music' and you had Vanilla Ice in the past but it took the big commercial success of Eminem to pave the way for 'white rappers' which you see a lot now and you see Justin Timberlake being 'Urban' these days as well. Basically what I'm getting is that maybe all this won't matter soon thanks to this guy and maybe American Hip-Hop will become INTERESTING again (the british stuff like Roots Manuva and The Streets is interesting) and they'll have to think of rapping about different things than the same kind of c**p over and over again like it has become in the past few years.

Eugh, just because someone is gay dosn't mean they're not aloud to rap?

Good on Deadlee ^_^

And I think some people are tired of hearing the same old c**p about how the rapper is going to kill and rape his mum

Hmm... this thread could get argumentative -_-, please refrain from using homophobic comments ^_^

nice pic mr davies  :P

yeah i agree but it will never stop so theres nothing we can do about it.

Yes it could, if whoever buys this c**p stopped buying it we wouldn't have to hear from them again. :arrr: People who like rap music only ever say it's because of the lyrics anyway, so why not just buy a book???

Addy! I deleted your post as I had a complaint of it being homophobic, please do not post such comments again, if you think gay people are 'ugh' that's your decision but please do not post it here ^_^

hmmm...

obviously homophobia is rife in the hip-hop industry, and obviosuly there would be people upset if there was hip hop videos with half naked men singing about gay sex. but so what? its ok for straight people to do it, but not gay people? Why is someone being persecuted because of there sexual orientation? Surely in hip hop its the beats, the lyrics of what the rapper has to say, and most of the time the rappers that talk about hoes and $h!t are pretty bad MC's so they conform to what they know what will sell in loads.

If it's accepted in every other genre, why not R&B/Hip Hop. Personally I love these genres, and it doesn exactly bother me that gay stuff isnt talked about, but when there are people on here, and in the hip hop community, that wont give them a chance simply because of sexuality is oretty dam stupid imo

In keeping with the hip-hop tradition of dissing your peers, Deadlee takes on some of the industry's cockiest playas, including Eminem, DMX and 50 Cent.

"Eminem was called out for his juvenile, hateful approach to homosexuality, especially in his song 'Criminal' (on "The Marshall Mathers LP")," said Deadlee.

"He was the biggest rapper at the time, and if he used the same song as a diss to blacks or Latinos, he would probably be dead.

"Eminem likes to pick on the 'weak,' but gay ain't weak and he might be a f** himself. He knew all the subcultures in that song."

He also commented on 50 Cent's views on the gay community. 50 was quoted in Playboy saying he "doesn't F-u-c-k with F-A-G-G-O-T-S."

"He is a classic man who had homo-feelings and chooses to lash out because he is afraid he might act out on his true feelings. 50 Cent has deep-rooted homosexual tendencies." (Stewart Who?, Gay.com U.K.)

You tell em.

If I were to make a rap about black people and how they are scum etc [not that I think they are = I'm just using it as an example]. They'd be national outcry and protest, yet these f***ing rappers are allowed to slate homosexuality? If hiphop is this guy's passion - he has every right to rap and record - regardless of his sexual orientation.

I don't see promoting awareness of the good sides of homosexuality or the whole equality issue as a bad thing at all because that is something positive and something we should all work towards - not the thousands of Americanised $h!t we get every year about guns and shagging sluts. The whole genre makes me sick and it's part of the reason why we have the 'chav' culture and all the crime that goes on. -_-

I reckon part of what this guy is trying to do is make Rap more politicized again and be the force for rebellion and social change that it once was... Public Enemy's Chuck D did describe Rap as the "Black CNN" at one point... A Gay Activist Rapper is a good thing, the Rap scene needs a bloody good kick up the arse...

i like hiphop music and that gay rapper will flop hard

because most most of the people who listens to hiphop are straight.

And i dont think hiphop has anything to do with people making crimes

everybody is responsible for their own actions blaming it on the music

you listens to aint gonna change that. Marilyn Manson has been blamed was

for a horribe school shooting that happened a few years ago in a high school

in america and that kid who killed alot of teachers and student happened

to be a marilyn manson fan and used that as an exscuse....in other word"Lame"

I think Michael Moore kinda proved the whole Manson link to Columbine was completely and utterly ludicrous anyway when he did his excellent documentary "Bowling For Columbine", I think we all know that it was America's psychotic gun culture and its people's own irrational fears and phobias and hatreds of one another that are the real causal factor in much of the random violence that takes place in the US...

I dunno about rap, I wouldn't see it banned really, but when you just generally look in the streets you do see these stupid Chav kids just totally acting like they're 50 Cent or Eminem or whoever, really quite sad and pathetic.... Wouldn't be so bad if they acted like Chuck D or Ice Cube cos then they might actually go and read something.....

The problem is really a lot deeper than hip/hop music, the homophobia comes from black urban culture in America. It’s a combination of poor education, the fundamental Baptist church, and other influences (such as Rastafarianism, as Russt pointed out in the Perspectives forum). Kanye West was quoted as saying the comment he was most attacked for last year was not the infamous “George Bush doesn’t care about black people†but his criticism of homophobia in hip/hop music. Sadly, it is an entirely racial issue. Eminem uses the word “fag†and a firestorm of criticism erupts. There are protests and boycotts and anger. Meanwhile 50 openly flaunts his homophobia and no one seems to care. Both hip/hop acts, but one of them gets away with it because he’s black.

I think this Deadlee guy is spot on – he’s speaking in the only language the hip/hop urban community understands. Chances are he won’t reach the success of Eminem or 50, and Dino is probably right that hip/hop will largely ignore him. But I doubt he’s looking to sell 10 million albums – he’s already organizing a tour and album that will be successful on a smaller scale.

This is why I wish that Ne-Yo would just come out already, he’d be the first mainstream black urban GAY artist.

I thought Ne-yo was already out ... alot of female urban acts have huge gay followings, beyonce for example.. she has openly spoken about loving gay people, i wonder what jay z's view on homosexual people is...

Oh absolutely, of course Beyonce was on the defense because of some nasty rumors about homophobic comments. I'm not saying those rumors are true, but they did come from somewhere (and whoever fabricated them had a reason).

Anyway I reread my earlier comments and they could possibly be misread as over-generalizing or stereotyping. Obviously I'm speaking about a "culture," not really skin color. And of course there are exceptions. But there is a huge problem of homophobia in black urban culture (thus hip/hop culture and music).
