Posted February 12, 200718 yr 'I'm a good girl now' Sarah Harding was once our favourite party animal, but her new tabloid journalist boyfriend has changed all that. She talks to Sunday Life about her new romance and quashes those 'Girls Aloud split' rumours... Sunday, February 11, 2007 Last year, there wasn't a day that went by without the tabloids printing a picture of Girls Aloud beauty Sarah Harding out on the town, partying hard. But "it's a new year and a new Sarah", the 25-year-old told Sunday Life during a recent visit to Belfast. "Yeah, I'm really kind of over that now," she insisted. "I'm not saying 'never say never' - I might still go out the odd time - but I was single back then and I'm not now, so I've a completely different attitude towards partying. Now it's more about moderation." Manchester-born Sarah was in the province to promote Coke Zero, the new soft drink that has zero sugar, but all of the taste of regular Coca Cola, and judging by her stunning appearance, her partying past has done no harm to her good looks. "I've always had a very healthy attitude to eating and looking after myself, by going to the gym once in a while," she reveals. "But I was burning the candle at both ends for a time and I knew that it could easily get out of control." Sarah is obviously delighted to be in a steady relationship having been linked to a string of well-known men (including Calum Best) in the past, and she refers to Joe (Daily Star columnist Joe Mott) constantly during our conversation. "I'm really happy with Joe at the minute and I'm really happy to be in a relationship. I'm not one of these 'here today, gone tomorrow' girls. "I enjoyed going out, but I was never promiscuous - that's not something I agree with. "I was single for a long time and I didn't want to be. What's the point of being successful when you've got no one to share it with." But a tabloid journalist? After the way she and her showbiz friends (Jordan - she was bridesmaid at her wedding to Peter Andre - and Danielle Lloyd - although the two haven't been in touch in a long time) were portrayed in the past, was she not worried about sleeping with the enemy, so to speak? "No, because he's very good friends with my Press officer!" laughs Sarah. "If he had have been a bad sort, I'm sure I would have been warned off before now. And he did ask me out a couple of years ago and I was like, 'No way am I dating a journalist'. It took him two years of hard work to persuade me to go out with him." Sarah and the rest of Girls Aloud will be back to perform in the province later this year. Is there any truth in the rumours that it's a farewell tour? "Is it heck. God, that makes me sound really northern. Is it 'eck!" she laughs again. "I don't know why but people love to stir things up. It's like the rivalry between us and the Sugababes, when in fact there has never been any rivalry whatsoever." The groups are even collaborating on a version of Run DMC's Walk This Way for this year's Comic Relief. Sarah adds: "When you put five girls together, people are always going to assume that they won't get on and of course, we do have our disagreements. We've been together for more than four years now, so of course we haven't always agreed. But we are like sisters. We're like family. "At the end of the day, why should you quit when you're ahead and we're very happy with the way things are going and we want to continue." Being so high profile, does she feel under constant pressure to stay slim and look good. "The only pressure I feel is from myself. When I'm comfortable with how I look then it comes across in my attitude and confidence, that's the main thing. "However, I do feel that magazines do put too much pressure on women to achieve what they see as an ideal and there is no ideal. As long as someone can embrace their shape and be happy with themselves and be healthy, then that's the main thing. "I don't think that this whole size zero thing is good or healthy at all. There are people who are naturally skinny and healthy and there are also people who are overweight and healthy as well. "Everyone is different." As well as her career with Girls Aloud, later this year Sarah will make her big screen debut in the Britflick, Bad Day. "I don't have a big role - only two scenes," she laughs. " They wanted me to do more, but work was so hectic at the time that I couldn't. "But the role wasn't given to me. I had to go through the audition/screen test process just like everybody else. "I'm really looking forward to it, because acting is something I have always been interested in. "Career-wise, it does have a shelf life, just like music, but it's something I've always wanted to do for however short a time. So if the opportunities arise to do a bit here and there as well as music, I'll do it. "Eventually, I'd like to be seen as a bit of an all-rounder." Does she ever worry that her hectic schedule will take its toll on her new relationship? "No. The good thing about Joe is that he understands what I do. "And anyway, it took him two years to get this far, so I think he's in it for the long haul." › Coke Zero is on sale in shops now.
