Within hours of the lead single's video from Avril Lavigne's 3rd album 'The Best Damn Thing' appearing on Youtube, over 1000 comments have been made accusing Avril of 'Selling out' and becoming a whore amongst others.

Seems you get the usual Avril haters as always but response to the new single 'Girlfriend' has been very poor from all circuits even long term Avril fans are seriously doubting the new album.

Hmmm, to be honest I think Avril had a few options with this album:

 

A. She could have gone into even harder rock, which wouldn't have shifted units, may have alienated some of her fans, and a lot of people wouldn't believe.

 

B. She could have put out an album exactly the same as Under My Skin which wouldn't get her much credibility, it would only make people yawn.

 

C. She could have done what she actually has done, taken on a different type of sound, but kept her main roots, and I think this was the best option. ^_^

LOL i like the new lyrics but after watching the video the song has really grown on me :)

I don't know where all the criticism has come from. The only thing that's changed about her from what I can see is that now her music sounds more mainstream pop, whereas before she was blurring the line between pop/rock. No one believes she's a rock artist anymore, and it's nice to see Avril knows that and has embraced pop! ^_^

I mean Keep Holding On is on this album too ya know and that is virtually at the other end of the scale compared to Girlfriend and if people listened to the clips you'd see its basically Avril doing whats made her so hugeo n the past two albums only it's much more polished.

Just because she's married doesn't mean she has to start singing $h!t about how in love she is etc etc.

To be honest I was first skeptical of Avril. Me being 28 years old, I thought her music was way too young for me. But my husband happen to download her album and I listened to it on my iPod and thought it was great! When I first saw the video for Girlfriend I couldn't believe it!! Isn't that what she hated? But I do think its kind of a catchy song.

Fans/General Public tend to be quite idiotic when it comes to new/different stuff. I think no one should care about this comments and enjoy the single if they like it.

It's such a great song to rewrite - very easy but then again, it was written when she was drunk!
