:yahoo: I am very excited atm about a community project I am putting together, part of which has involved making a promotional DVD that I used Coldplay's Fix You as the track for. We're currently involved in a dialogue with Coldplay's publisher to get clearance to use the track. It is all up in the air right now but I just wanted to share it with people here, and wondered if anyone had any thoughts etc. The feedback I have had so far is that Chris Martin may be pretty okay with the idea due to all the work he does for charity . . .

cool what exactly are you doing?

Thanks for asking . . . :)

I am involved with various different projects within the field of 'the arts, media and mental health'. The DVD is for a project I have been working on since last year to deliver a new kind of initiative in the community that hopefully people who are dis-engaged from mainstream services would be able to benefit from. The DVD was orignally for a presentation I am making at the end of the month, but people who have seen it have encouraged me to develop it further as more of a promotional tool to get the message across to people who could use the service, and for funders etc.

When I originally used 'Fix You' I thought I'd just wing the performing rights for the presentation at the end of the month, but since there is potential to show it to more people I am trying to get clearance from Coldplay's publishers. As what I am working on is not-for-profit and has a social benefit, people seem to think Chris Martin et al would be okay with giving a license to use the track . . .

Right now, I'm not so sure, but I am excited about it and I really hope it happens . . .

well that sounds great...and when its finished do you reckon you could upload it so we can all have a look?

possibly

My God. Awesome!

Snowbaby whatever you do it sounds incredibly interesting.

Chris Martin is a very cool guy and I think he'll be okay with the licensing but I'm not sure about his label etc.

I've just found out that BBC2 are running a series of short films about the NHS, and each one has been created using a different Coldplay track as the theme! I haven't seen them yet, but someone I know has the first one on tape. This is uncanny timing, but may bode well :)

Progress update . . .

I've just received an e-mail to say EMI have agreed to a license for me to use the whole track for 200 copies of my DVD in the UK for 2 years . . .

. . . at a cost of £100.

Bit cross they're charging as it's a not-for-profit initiative, but they're a commercial company, and I guess £100 isn't that steep for the subliminal message that the project has Chris Martin's backing!

:) I'm pleased it's come through because I've been given the opportunity to show it at a launch for someone else's project on the 22nd March, where there will be potential funders.

That's great news, Snowbaby even if they are charging ^_^

Be sure to keep us updated

$h!tty update . . .

Apparently the woman at EMI was just quoting what it WOULD cost - she hadn't actually approached Artist Management.

Today I've got an e-mail to say they refused the use of it.

This is quite annoying, as I have edited the whole piece to fit to the music.

It will work without the music - but I don't think it will have quite the same impact.

I don't really have the time to choose another track and re-edit the whole thing.

I am thinking of opening it up to individuals / voluntary groups who make music to see if they could score it for me - and in return I would give them the £100 EMI would've got if they're a voluntary group, or donate it to a charity of their choice if it is an individual.

What do you think? Bit upset/annoyed about the Coldplay thing. And why didn't the stupid EMI person make the request initially instead of quoting terms and costs first and getting my hopes up? ffs.

hmm thats pretty unfair...if it were me id complain some more to EMI

Yeah, I was thinking I could send them a copy of the DVD to see if I could guilt them into it!

Well one of my patrons has written a letter of support, and I've written a letter saying why the track is so important etc., and they're being sent off today with a copy of the DVD.

Hopefully this may achieve something.

fingers crossed for you snowbaby

Thank you.

Although have just had snotty telephone conversation with someone from the local paper who was quite adamant they wouldn't be covering the launch on Thursday. Apparently 1 in 4 people experiencing mental health difficulties, which equates to around 300,000 people in Birmingham at any given time, is not important.

So many hurdles. . .

. . . snowbaby is exhausted!

Could you cross a few toes as well?!

ok will do snowbaby

best of luck
