Both have released their debut albums and Ray is outselling his rival by over two-to-one at Woolworths. His self-titled album of swing tunes is proving a hit in the run-up to Mother's Day. "Ray has raced ahead and looks a cert to be number one on Sunday," said Woolworths music buyer Keith Black. "Judging by our sales figures... he can expect to sell over 150,000 albums this week - a big success for the young star." But Ben should also secure a respectable chart placing with his offering, Pictures Of You. "Ben's album is also selling really well, just not as fast as Ray's. His individual style has captured the public's imagination and he can expect a really high chart debut on Sunday. "The rate of sales for both albums further proves the power of the X Factor to sell a significant number of records," said Mr Black. HMV also predicted a chart victory for Liverpudlian Ray. Spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "This is shaping up to be a close chart battle between the cute lad that women would like to mother and the sensitive hunk they would like to seduce. "Ray has to start as favourite given that he went further on X Factor, and we're certainly finding that our stores and hmv.co.uk website are picking up a lot of interest for him."
March 12, 200718 yr This was expected :( As usual, bland MOR rubbish in the charts for Mother's Day :manson:
March 12, 200718 yr Ben hasn't done any promotions has he? But he's got the bigger chance of being a consistent seller :D
March 12, 200718 yr Combined, they have got less talent and charisma than Tara Palmer-Tompkinson on Celeb Fame Academy. They make Journey South & Andy Abrahams seem quite decent in comparison.
March 12, 200718 yr oh good god there are so many reasons to hate mothers day!!!! it will be more bearable if ben gets to number 1 but it wont happen *pulls angry face*
March 12, 200718 yr The whole x factor format is so boring!!! The winner gets the Christmas number one with some soppy outdated ballad and the two losers release albums on the same day in time for mother's day!!!! Time to knock it on the head methinks!!!!!!!
March 12, 200718 yr It such a pity that the British record buying public are so gullible. Never mind neither of them will be making music this time next year. Wonder how many mothers will be actually pleased to receive either of these cds. Edited March 12, 200718 yr by truly talented
March 12, 200718 yr  And I haven't even bought my copy yet. Ooh, his cheeky-chops little face  Never mind, it'll join Alex from Fame Academy's album in my own bargain bin by next week. I'm such a sucker
March 12, 200718 yr Ben hasn't done any promotions has he? But he's got the bigger chance of being a consistent seller :D he has but he hasn't quite recieved as much promotion as Ray. Ray and his mum were on Ready Steady Cook today lol. Yeah I agree with you that Ben will sell a lot more than Ray in the long term. Ray will be gone in a year. His second album will bomb and also, even if Ray does beat Ben to number one which I expect he sadly will, I actually expect Ben to be higher in the charts in two weeks time than Ray will be. Ray will plummet down the chart whereas Ben I feel may stick around in the top 20.
March 12, 200718 yr So says the spokesperson for HMV, as usual this info is only coming from one chain store, not overall
March 12, 200718 yr It was obvious he was gonna beat Ben. I wonder what the end of week sales will be? -_-
March 13, 200718 yr i wouldnt buy either myself but my girlfriend bought both ,sales figures out early this week for albums

I had no idea who he ever *was* until Sunday, given that I'm *not* an X-Factor drone. I'd seen someone covering Sinatra's 'My Way' on the Sky music channels, but didn't make the connection. All I can say is : poor Joss Stone, she could hardy have picked a worse week to release her new album. Edited March 13, 200718 yr by vidcapper
