I agree. It's so bloody hypcritical for these rich people to ask us to donate money! If all the millionaires in the world gave even a fraction of what they own the problems would be more on the way to being solved & they'd still be rich!

Let people give what they want with discretion & in privacy rather than turning these people's suffering into entertainment. which is basically what comic relief is to people in this country.

Lets not forget G8 where the rich nations of the world promised to end world poverty, now that is pure comedy imo <_<

so the British public give a donation to ease their conscience, I don't have a problem with that, but the rich countries can resolve the problems by Government action and African leaders being taken to task and spend money on their people and not on weapons and fancy palaces.

What's in it for the cynic?

What about the people who do stuff because they actually care?

So why dont they care for the whole 12 months of the year, instead of just one night....? I agree with charity, like Rob I donate monthly out of my bank account to several good causes.... This is the whole crux of the matter... Things like Comic Relief is all well and good, BUT there has to be long-term, sustainable answers to Africa's problems, a Telethon with a bunch of celebs just aint gonna cut it, the G8, World Bank and IMF getting up off their corrupt, lazy arses and actually doing something positive... is the only thing that really will actually help....

I give up a lot of my time to do voluntary work, and I am by no means alone in doing this. I am very inspired by a lot of the people I meet. Stuff like Comic Relief is visible and raises awareness, please don't damn a whole population when many of it's members are quietly getting along trying to make a difference with the money that filters down to them - and they often have to fight extremely hard to get it.

I agree with you in terms of the global political/financial $h!t . . . I have my eyes open, but I don't use cynicism or apathy as an excuse because if I did then their power is even more powerful and has exerted even more control over the masses.

And why does everyone blatantly keep banging on about Africa when it's by no means the whole Comic Relief agenda?

I rode the emotional rollercoaster that was last night's Comic Relief to the end. The documentaries got even more harrowing in the early hours of the morning, including ones on domestic violence in the UK, the young people in the UK who are losing their childhoods because they are carers to their families, and one on the UK sex trafficking industry.

i used last nights beg-a-thon as an excuse to vent my feelings in general on the situation in africa. so it wasnt exactly comic relief i was moaning about but comic reliefs african aid ....

Same here... The stuff they do at home seems to have a vastly more positive and long-lasting effect...
