Posted March 22, 200718 yr Well, we all know the 'Swing' album will be released either this year or next as it is part of the contract, but I just thought we should have a new thread for the new studio album Rob is apperently writing at the minute. There has been quite alot of info about it over the past few days. ^_^ Mark Ronson confirmed he will be flying over to L.A to work on it in a few weeks. Vicky from the Sun said today that he is writing with the Duffster, Kelvin Andrews and Danny Spencer. So it sounds like we will be hearing more Rudebox-style material. ^_^ K Andrews and D Spencer wrote a few tracks on Rudebox with Rob, including "Viva Life On Mars", Never touch that Switch and Burslam Normals. I hope he works with Jerry Meeham again cause they make a great team. ^_^ In the big issue interview last year, when Rob let the interviewer hear some of the new material, it was decribed as being "Guitar laden, but not overly rock". So it sounds like a cross between IC and Rudebox to me. I'd personally love a real rockier album :P I do hope though he does'nt release anything until next year as he needs a break, and also if he takes an entire year off to write it, can you just imagine how great it could be. FVokmOFfGvw

Im thinking Rob is no fool & will consider closely what happened with Rudebox... the huge success of it with the music critics & the less commercial success of it with the normal fan base. It was still pretty successful comercially especially outside of the UK & Ireland. I hope he also realises that the non-promotion had a big impact on sales. I actually firmly believe that if Rob had not been on tour when this album was released that it would have been a huge success especially if Rob had had a chance to do personal promotion of it. Do you still get the feeling though that he will put out an album that suits him & not what other people think....Is he gone past the point of high sales achievements & is now concentrating on his real love of music as being the essential ingredient to making what he personally considers to be a good album.
March 23, 200718 yr oh P swing music is amazing!!! although rudebox only came out 6 moths ago so i think its too soon for another album...although if he wants to release one he gets no arguement for me
March 23, 200718 yr Rob's albums are f**** amazing, so really don't have an idea what kind of staff i would like to be included or so on..... Edited March 23, 200718 yr by David_78

I'd like to say that he's past the point of high sales and pleasing others, putting out songs that he knows will appeal to the masses but with Rob you never know. I do however, think its more about pleasing himself now but I think he may tweak it to maybe make it more palatable for the general public. I'd personally like to see him completely doing his own thing, for himself, and not trying to please whoever but that remains to be seen. I can't even imagine what he'll come up with for the next album but, and hopefully old Vicky has her facts straight, hearing that he's working with the Stoke boys Kelvin and Danny and Duffy makes me very happy. Like you Scotty, I do hope he works again with Jerry, they came up with some gems for Rudebox. I think Rudebox showed Rob that he needs to do promo and he even mentioned that in an Australian interview where he said that Rudebox got a lukewarm reception in the UK because he wasn't there to promote it and that its now important for him to do the interviews and promotion and then he said, you only know how much something means when its gone. Hopefully he'll be more up for the promo next time and do it big. I'd love him to come out guns blazing and make every critic and journalist eat their words. Can't say I'm overly excited by Swing but Rob does do it very well and having anything new from Rob is always good Just hope its not rushed. He really needs to take this year off but with EMI who knows, they may push it. I think Rudebox - released when it was, which is so unlike Rob - was also pushed by them to help them recoup their losses.
March 23, 200718 yr I love swing and would really love another swing album but on the other hand, yes he needs some rest..there's time ^_^
March 23, 200718 yr I'm not a fan of Swing music. -_- I just like to watch concert Live Albert Hall, and that's it. There are just few songs which I like to listen. But, if we'll get new Swing album - ok. I hope I'll find some songs for my taste there. And also I think promotion of it would be great. For my taste, I would like more one rock album.. -_- ^_^ And about the time when album should be out, I can't wait to hear it, so I would like it right now. -_- But, when I think a bit, it's better that Robbie have some break and enough time to make one great album (like all the others).
March 23, 200718 yr Well Rudebox made me interested in him and by the sound of that I might like the next one as well ^_^ I know I won't like the Swing album though :puke2:
March 23, 200718 yr I think for the sake of the casual fans, he needs to wait AT LEAST a year to release ANYTHING new...swing or not. Unfortunately, those people get tired of seeing/hearing him all the time. So if he wants to be "fresh and new", he needs some down time in between. Then come back with a vengence!!
March 23, 200718 yr Next studio album recordings (2007–2008) Williams's said in 2006 that he will release two albums in 2007, one being an original studio albums and the other being a follow up to his massive selling Swing When You're Winning compilation album. In an interview with The Big Issue magazine in 2006, Williams's described his upcoming studio album as "Guitar laden, but not overly rock". Music Producer Mark Ronson has confirmed he will be producing the album. It is unclear wether either of them will actually be released in 2007 or 2008 as Swedish singer Lisa Lovebrand, who Williams is also said to be working with, said she doesn't think he will release anything until 2008. The follow up to his 2001 rat pack covers album Swing When You're Winning is rumoured to be titled Let's Swing Again, and the first single will be a duet of Just The Two of Us with Kevin Spacey. i dont know whether to trust this cause its from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_williams...still it sounds good
March 23, 200718 yr Author Please god no to the Spacey duet of 'Just the two of us', that would be the most hidious, cheesy duet imaginable.

Rob didn't describe the next album as 'guitar laden, but not overly rock', it was the interviewer who heard a few songs he was working on that described those songs in that way. Mark Ronson said in a recent interview that he's going out to LA to work on some new tracks, I believe he said, not that he was producing the entire album. I can't believe they actually used a quote that, that Lisa supposedly made. We don't even know if she actually said that as it appeared in one of the tabloids. And the Kevin Spacey duet, I have no clue where that rumour came from. All Kevin Spacey supposedly said was that Rob will apparently launch the Swing album in Vegas and that Rob will appear on a duets album of some sort or the article just mentioned that without Spacey actually saying it, can't remember now how it went exactly. All we can do is wait and see. He must have a lot of songs written by now I'd imagine ..... a two cd set would be lovely :D ... will never happen but a girl can dream lol
March 23, 200718 yr Please god no to the Spacey duet of 'Just the two of us', that would be the most hidious, cheesy duet imaginable. LOL can it be any cheesier than the duet with Rupert Everett ? I love Kevin Spacey and it would be nice for them to duet but not on that song
March 23, 200718 yr RF4L dont take it as solid info as its wikipedia so for all we know anyone could have posted it, as anyone can add to wikipedia articles as long as it sounds professional
March 23, 200718 yr Author I agree, a duet would be good, Spacey did a good job of "Beyond The Sea" (not as good as Rob's though), but "Just the two of us" is SUCH a cheesy joke of a song, it is just a novelty song imo. I would love an actual studio version of My Way though, and "Smile", he would do a great job of that one. :D As for a double album, yeah, I'd love that as well. :yahoo:
March 23, 200718 yr Forgive me if I'm wrong on any of this, but I believe he owes EMI one more album - which will be the 2nd Swing album, then he is a free agent. The next studio album will therefore be part of a new record deal. I know that I read somewhere (within the last fortnight) that Universal are the favourites to sign him, as he reportedly has been impressed by the way they have promoted and marketed their acts (not least the return of his former band). As for his decline in popularity, I honestly suspect that the blip is temporary, because he is Britain's leading PopStar of the last decade and he has a place and respect in the public eye not seen since the death of Freddie Mercury & therefore the end of Queen. (i.e. A Charismatic & Brilliant showman, great songs that the public love, yet not loved by the music critics due to the perceived lack of originality). Virtually all major acts in the history of Pop Music have had a time when the media has turned on them and they are out of vogue within the public eye, but they all bounce back because they are amongst the greats and Robbie will be the same. However, I would be happier if he gets the Swing album (and EMI contract) out of the way (ie. Nov 1997), then takes time out to sort out his personal well-being before coming back refreshed with a great album and tour in 1999.
March 23, 200718 yr I would imagine if he does release Swing2 this year there won't be much promotion for it. Being his last in the contract, he'll probably be "good riddance" to EMI I would think.
