problem is McClaren won't drop the big names if they're not performing. Then he tries to defend himself by saying he does, by pointing at Beckham.

The one big name he probably shouldn't have dropped.... The only reason he did that was to prove that he wasn't just a Sven "yes" man... But ultimately his decision to drop Beckham has, as loathe as I am to admit it, been quite a catastrophic move for England... So many good players, but things just continually seem to go t*ts up for you guys... I reckon you've had two managers now that have squandered all the talent you've had in your team by making grievously stupid tactical errors...

That's the best TEAM we can have I reckon, Coppell or Redknapp would be great imo. I've always like Wenger too and it'd be interesting as he'd be forced to look at English players  I think McClaren shall be gone soon now as he's shown his BRILLIANT man management skills by getting in a rage and even making Wayne Rooney the scapegoat inparticular  Yes, that's the way to motivate your team and get them going :)

to be fair Rooney hasn't exactly been in tip form for England since he had his foot stamped on by a mad Portuguese man
just cos Gerrard and Lampard have always been $h!t doesn't mean they shouldn't get stick lol

agree about Lampard, he just doesn't seem to be interested any more when he has an England shirt on.

Yes Gerrard has been poor, but he keeps getting shipped around all over the midfield. Put him in the centre, let him settle into that role, and I believe he will produce ^_^

Lampard is the possibly the most over rated player, i've ever come across. I thought im 2004 he was gonna actually turn out to be a decent England player, but he's just not. Even for Chelsea he's over rated and i'm sure a lot of the proper Chelsea fans will agree with this. Scoring goals doesn't make anyone a good player, but because he was able to score lots at Chelsea people immeditley think he's god when he really isn't.

For England, Sven and now McLaren both seem to play him in a similar position to Chelsea and have Gerrard playing as the more defensive player, which is a waste of Gerrard's talent. On his day Gerrard is without a doubt the best midfielder in the world as he's proved countless times for Liverpool, but he just can't seem to re-capture the same club form on the international level, like most players.

What that whole issue is down to, I really don't know. Sven and McLaren both don't seem the type of guys to come hard down on the star players if they put a foot wrong because the media will forever go on about it, just like with the Beckham issue and I guess that thought is in the back of Mclaren's mind if he were to drop one of the more star profile players like Rooney, Lampard or Gerrard.

just cos Gerrard and Lampard have always been $h!t doesn't mean they shouldn't get stick lol

Until Stevie G is able to play in the same role that he does for Liverpool in an offensive central midfield role then he will NEVER repeat his club form for England.

Why does McLaren continue to favour Fat Lampard in that role for England is a complete mystery to me.

For an England XI it is either Gerrard or Lampard for that position not both. As Frank Lampard has been hopeless for England in the same role that he plays for Chelsea then he deserves to be dropped. Why else were some of the travelling England supporters singing to Frank "Are you John Barnes in disguise" in the last 15 minutes of the match in Israel?

Four years on and England have now done exactly the same as France after the 2002 World Cup Finals:

1. The Assistant Manager (Jacque Santini) got promoted.

2. The captain & talisman (Zinedine Zidane) immediately quit as Captain but insisted that he wanted to continue playing for his country.

3. Jacque Santini preceded to not select Zidane (& Claude Makélélé & Lilian Thuram) for the national side.

4. France stumbled in their European Qualifying Group going five matches without a victory.

Here is what happened next:

5. Santini got sacked with four qualifying matches left where France needed to win all four fixtures to qualify for the European Championship play-offs (finishing 2nd in their group).

6. He was replaced by the recently resigned and very successful Under21 national manager Raymond Domenech.

7. Domenech recalled Zidane, Claude Makélélé & Lilian Thuram and France went on to qualify for the European Championships beating England 2-1 in the same group before surprisingly losing to surprise winners Greece in the quarter-finals.

8. Then after a dodgy World Cup qualifying Group & poor performances in the group stages of the World Cup, France went on to reach the World Cup Final, before losing to Italy on penalties.

So from this scenario the solution is very straightforward - Sack McLaren and appoint Peter Taylor as England manager and the rest will be history.
