A true queen! Any other fans?

I love the Eurythmics before that single they released end of last year but its her solo material that is just amazing!

'No More I Love Yous' is one of my favourite songs of all times - just so random the way she talks to herself and the video

She is apparently releasing a greatest hits compilation this year :cheer:

I'm a massive fan of Annie and Eurythmics. Annie is still one of the true greats as proven by her stunning performance at Live 8 last year. No fancy gimmicks, just great songs and great singing and she had everyone raving.

there was an article about this song in the paper last friday. about the history of the song and band who originally did it, The Lover Speaks

I'm a fan, have been for years, she's unique and alongside Dave Stewart Britain had one of the best songwriting teams of the century.

I love the Diva album. Little Bird, Why, No More I Love You's, Precious, Walking On Broken Glass, the cover of A Whiter Shade Of Pale - all amazing.

I heard that she's back with a new album this year, but not heard any further details yet.

notes from the independent - Story Of The Song:

No More I Love Yous was originally recorded by the band The Lover Speaks a decade earlier

David Freeman and Joseph Hughes were at a loose end after their punk band the Flys hit the windshild. They took the name the lover speaks from a line in a Roland Barthes discourse and wrote some songs.

Hughes sent the demo tape to David a Stewart, who nooded his approval and forwarded it to Chrissie Hynde, who then passed it on to her producer Jimmy Iovine. A deal was struck with A&M and Iovine took the duo out to LA to record their debut album that was released in 1986.

The band opened for Eurythmics on their 1986 tour with No More I love yous single peaking at 58.

Not heard much of her stuff Im afraid, I really should though, but I love Why. Kelly Clarkson sung it at her concert, and I came home and downloaded the original...

she's a fantastic vocalist and a total icon.

Her 80s image was breathtaking, and Eurytmics, well, the ealrlier stuff, was amazing. I hate the later stuff, though, the Be Yourself Tonight era and the Peace album was just awful.

Her solo stuff started off well, Diva was magnificent... but the follow up covers album Medusa was pretty misguided. Give me the beautiful Lover Speaks version of No More 'I Love Yous' anyday - it knocks chunks out of Lennox's version. Her last album, Bare, is a depressing disappointment, too, recorded when she was going through a painful divorce... and it shows. All the songs are maudlin and dour.

An amazing talent she remains, though....

I'd love her to do more leftfield stuff - maybe a guest spot with Massive Attack or some work with some credible dance producers.

amazing voice but imho never really got a good song to use it on... im just not a fan of her material.

but i did like her early stuff, the tourists and the eurythmics first hit 'never gonna cry again' which was imho their best.

i think annie is great. she did some fantastic songs. i love the song:

WHY ?

I know that Annie was the most successful of the top trio of 1980s British female singer/songwriters but personally I prefer Alison Moyet (2nd) & Kate Bush (1st).

I agree Annie Lennox's best work was with Dave Stewart in the Eurythmics the first time around.

My Top5 Eurythmics songs would be:

1. You Placed A Chill In My Heart

2. Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)

3. Thorn In My Side

4. Don't Ask Me Why

5. There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)

couldn't agree more with those 5 songs

As we're resurrecting old threads, here's another old one...and... how times change. Here I am lauding Lennox.... these days I can't bear to hear her painful whine.

Interest will be raised due to the Victoria and Albert Museum exhibition of her work and costumes but - sorry - it's about time Annie realised - her voice is shot, it's gone.... what does anyone else think?

Great singer, I own her Greatest Hits collection and Bare, and Eurythmics Greatest Hits.
