Posted March 31, 200718 yr CULTURE BOX - CULTURAL ICONS: REM http://www.jamonline.it/jam97/images/rem.jpg ************************************************************************************ REM to unveil new album in summer BBC Entertainment News US rock band REM will unveil material from their new album at a series of concerts in Dublin. The shows, in July at the Olympia Theatre, will be the first time in a decade the band has played new songs live before they appeared on an album. Recording is expected to begin in the coming months with bassist Mike Mills hinting it may have a more "uptempo" feel than 2004's Around the Sun. The as-yet-untitled album is expected out before the end of the year. 'Great start' Mills told Billboard magazine earlier in March at the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction that most of the music was written but the lyrics were still being worked on. Stipes told the band's website: "Returning to Dublin for our live rehearsal this summer provides the great start we need for our next album's work. "I intend to hit the ground running." REM, best known for their songs Losing My Religion and Everybody Hurts, have released 13 studio albums. Are any of you still REM fans or did their last (dismal) album "Around The Sun" scare any of you off?
March 31, 200718 yr I really like REM (they are one of the very few American acts I actually like)> Automatic for the People is a classic album, and for me, I have always (and still do) really enjoy 2001's Reveal. Their last album was OK, so good to hear they may be going uptempo.
April 1, 200718 yr that's great news, they have some classic songs- hopefully the new album will have more ^_^
