Posted April 3, 200718 yr Hello Does anyone remember CANDY FLIP? You might know of their name from their big hit single STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER or you might know there name as they have turned up as Robbie William's co-writers on Rudebox (well the members Danny 'DIZZY DEE' Spencer and Kelvin Andrews have, the other member Ric Peet is not involved) Most people only remember STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER, but MADSTOCK, THE CONTINUING ADVENTURES OF BUBBLECAR FISH has better tunes on the CD like the Duran Duran Save A Prayer sound of REDHILL ROADS. I think Robbie should cover this record. Also THIS COULD BE REAL is great, that should have been a bigger hit as well.
April 3, 200718 yr This Can Be Real is a great song, yeah. I remember being bitterly disappointed when it wasn't a hit...especially after the Strawberry Fields cover went top 3. Got Madstock on my laptop at home.
April 3, 200718 yr never understood the need to cover this beatles classic tbh, maybe the fans were younger people who werent familiar with the original as people tend to prefer the first version they heard. (abit like blondie 'denis', never knew it was a cover at the time, maybe id have prefered the original, same with the clash 'i fought the law' which isnt as good as the original by the bobby fuller four in '66)
April 4, 200718 yr same with the clash 'i fought the law' which isnt as good as the original by the bobby fuller four in '66 I disagree with that, I reckon The Clash's version is better.... The Dead Kennedys also did a hilarious cover of it, totally changing the lyrics of the song, turning it into a riotous anti-Police rant....
April 4, 200718 yr The Candy Flip version of "Strawberry Fields..." is pretty okay though, I mean it was part of that whole 'Madchester', "rave" thing, the "second summer of love", etc, so it kinda fit into that I reckon..... I dont really see it as being "disrespectful"....

June 11, 200718 yr The Clash's version is miles better - the fact that most people do think it's a Clash song shows how they made it their own. and Will 2K  (which was on the dodgy countdown as well). 2NKSUyNlaoc MADSTOCK, THE CONTINUING ADVENTURES OF BUBBLECAR FISH thats a dreadful title for an album!!! is the rudebox the single or the whole album (apart from the covers)??
