Nelly - Say It Right and Christina - Candyman will be released on imports next week. I'm wondering if these imports will have an effect to their chart placing at all.

BTW anyone knows which was the best placing for an import song? I remember ATB - 9 PM reached the top 40 on import alone and DJ Ötzi also reached some good places.

As far as I know usually the imports count to a different chart position, but I'm not sure if that's the case if there's no actual physical release (so what happens with Christina and Nelly I don't know)

According to polyhex.com, the highest charting imports are Mambo No.5 by Lou Bega and It Wasn't Me by Shaggy. both reaching #31

I remember DJ Otzi charting on imports first, and a week later it reached No.1, not sure if this was a climber to #1 or it has the same catalogue no. as the import.

Can an import chart on the actual chart now due to the new rule?

I think yes

There was one by the Jam that made the Top 40 in the early 80s wasn't there?

It shouldn't make any difference if a single has a different catalogue number of not.

DJ Otzi CLIMBED from 45 to 1

Lou Bega CLIMBED from 31 to 1

Eiffel 65 CLIMBED from 39 to 1 with Blue.

As far as affecting the charts I would say not much. I buy a lot of imports from Europe but thats because the stupid UK record companies give hardly any of them a UK release.

It's not right that record companies should dictate to us what we should buy.

It was That's Entertainment and it was the first ever single to chart on import.

By rights imports should be counted towards an artists final position and I think this will probably be taken into consideration and could well happen, however I am not sure it will have a huge impact unless these imports are sent to all music retailers, are HMV the only place which will be selling the imports as it has usually been in the past?
