With elections for the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly and town councils all over the UK (except London), is the Labour party going to suffer its worst election defeat since the 1980’s.

Labour has already thrown in the towel in four out of ten town hall seats to be fought in the local government elections on May 3, it emerged last night.

Amid fears that it is facing one of its worst electoral drubbings, the party will contest only 60 per cent of the seats up for grabs, the lowest figure since Tony Blair came to power. In some areas it has been unable to find a candidate.

The statistics were released as the Prime Minister, facing a voter backlash in Scotland and Wales, pleaded with Scottish voters not to punish him, because he was going anyway. In his most explicit admission that his resignation statement will follow soon after the elections, Mr Blair said that voters might “give me a kicking one last time on my way out of the doorâ€.

But the consequences of voting for the SNP would be there for four years, and if they went for independence it would be there forever. It would be a “crazy risk†to elect the SNP, he said.

Mr Blair said that he “despised†the SNP for attacking him over Iraq and cash-for-peerages, when these were issues over which the devolved Parliament in Edinburgh had no control.

Nevertheless Tony Blair is the SNP’s best weapon at the forthcoming election.

If Scotland does elect the SNP and in a couple of years time, in the General election if Labour lose the majority of its Scottish MP’s will the Tories get back into power at Westminster.

Easy, go onto the websites of each major party and check their policies and manifestos, vote for the one you agree with after taking an informed decision ^_^

Or just vote Lib Dem :cheer:

See, I was always going to vote Lib Dem but then I actually turned 18 and I realised for some reason that I didn't like them  I can't remember why though

Well I don't like any of the 3 major parties - Labour as far as I'm concerned are a load of $h!t - the Conservatives have always been awful when I did A Level History they were anyway and plus David Cameron is in my top 5 list of people whose face I want to drive my fist into and the Lib Dems just don't appeal to me. I think more promotion is needed for the younger voters. WE'RE CONFUSED :(

And they should aim to get people like us on side ^_^ Most of the 18 year olds I know still think Labour means hard work -_-

In England it is only for your local council, so it depends more on local issues, just see which ones are offering the best for your area. But bear in mind that they will promise anything to get your vote, then ignore you after they get power. Welcome to politics.

Ooh you have a point there, they might also make such a mistake :o

And no, you've never given birth to my knowledge

Now, this forum is very serious and unspammy and it's a privilege that us young'uns are allowed in. So let's not spam the place ^_^

 Thanks!

Tbh, I know very little about local issues  My parents have never voted in their lives I don't think, the closest we get to a political discussion is "ooh Tony Blair was good on Catherine Tate last night". :manson:

I should do some research

What an absolute arrogant little weasel Blair is... So, he "despised" the SNP for actually having the temerity to attack him over Iraq... Oh, well EXCUSE ME, but aren't there SCOTTISH SOLDIERS out there dodging bullets, car-bombs, etc as well as ENGLISH ones....??? My cousin was out there, as I have stated in another thread (and he bloody quit the armed forces because of our involvement in Iraq, after being a serving member for almost 15 YEARS!!!!)...... Little fukkin' PRICK, how DARE he.... <_< <_< Issues like the Iraq war and"Cash For Peerages" affect the country as a whole, we are still the UNITED Kingdom, whether for good or bad.... The SNP are a democratically elected Political Party, they were speaking out over issues that were of a concern to the Scottish people and the country as a whole - ie, they were doing what they were supposed to do, unlike the Tories, who just rolled over on their bellies and believed the lies they were told by Labour...

Cheers Bri, you've just given me another excuse to hate Blair....

I'll be voting. I always vote. I've never missed a single election of any kind.

I always vote SNP. ^_^

How would you vote if you where in England or no SNP candidate standing in your area?

How would you vote if you where in England or no SNP candidate standing in your area?

Hmmm, that's certainly an interesting question.. Cant wait to see the answer....

I've no major love for the SNP tbh, but at least they're stirring up some $h!t and actually doing some opposing, which is what an Opposition party is supposed to do... I'm more of a Tommy Sheridan fan myself.... Cool geezer, I've met him actually.. Unlike most politicians, he talks straight - no bullsh!t.... Last General Election, I was actually living in the Bethnal Green/Bow ward, and yes, I DID vote for George Galloway, purely as a protest vote... And it actually paid off....

I am VERY much what you'd call a 'floating voter'..... :P  I'll vote for whoever will upset the status quo a bit, and stir up a bit of sh!t....
