Posted April 17, 200718 yr I heard a rumour that the OCC is changing the chart from a Top 75 to an official Top 100 - can anyone shed some light as to whether this is true or not?
April 17, 200718 yr It would be fun if they did, plus we could see how long old songs stay around for  Imagine Chasing Cars still being there in 10 years time
April 17, 200718 yr I think it will be better with a top 100, but I haven't heard nothing about it, if there was, I would have heard about it on MW
April 17, 200718 yr Not heard this rumour before. What is the purpose behind that? It's a tough job to keep the attraction of the chart like it used to have, witness listening figures for the Radio 1 chart countdown. Is there any real point to the public at large in going beyond the Top40 which the BBC used?
April 18, 200718 yr i can see why they would do it, with the absolute catalogue of thousands of downloads available which now contribute to the chart
April 18, 200718 yr It sounds practicle and it's something that wouldn't shock me if it DID happen, but it's the first I've heard and as Mikey says it would have been in MW by now
April 18, 200718 yr I hope they do. UK is supposed to be a forerunner along with the US (although my opinion tends to differ). Apart from the US - Other countries that use a Top 100 include: Germany, Holland, Brazil, France, Poland, Switzerland, European, Mexico, Columbia, Peru, Japan, Chile.

Is there any real point to the public at large in going beyond the Top40 which the BBC used? There's plenty of interest. Since 1969 when the BBC started using the official chart they have always stupidly used a shortened version. When the complete chart was just Top 50 (until 1978) they used only the Top 30 and only expanded to Top 40 when the complete chart was expanded Top 75 in 1978. The complete chart did expand to Top 100 in 1983 and lasted until early 1991. The decision do reduce it back to a Top 75 was due to the fall of singles sales. Now with the multitude of downloads it seems sense to make it back to a Top 100.
April 19, 200718 yr It's probably to reflect the fact so many old songs seem to be hitting between 76 and 100 on downloads - especially after their use on TV or whatever. Also, including downloads seems to have hit a lot of acts who could have had a top 40 hit on physicals but get muscled out when the d/l's are included. This way they have more chance of a mention e.g. if they enter at no. 92 for one week. Edited April 19, 200718 yr by richie
April 19, 200718 yr I hope they do, it's not going to effect the top 75, just gives us more information :D
April 19, 200718 yr I've heard nothing, though it would be good if they did, and long overdue. It would be fun if they did, plus we could see how long old songs stay around for  Imagine Chasing Cars still being there in 10 years time  it would be better if they did, however it would be even better if there was a recurrents chart and so all the big big big radio songs exited it after so many weeks when they dropped below 60
April 19, 200718 yr I think it's a good idea actually, they've done it before. Record Mirror magazine used to print the Top 100 every week back in the 80s, and the club charts and Billboard charts too, and Alan Jones commentaries.
April 20, 200718 yr I heard a rumour that the OCC is changing the chart from a Top 75 to an official Top 100 - can anyone shed some light as to whether this is true or not? I've heard nothing - but to those of us who subcribe to ChartsPlus, it wouldn't make any difference. :) I just hope they don't get cold feet about how long some old tracks are charting for, and bring in new rules to exclude them.
