"When You're Gone" is the announced second official single from the 2007 album The Best Damn Thing by Avril Lavigne. It was announced as the second single on March 8 in an interview at Kiss FM. However it is still unconfirmed by RCA. Billboard described the song as "a power ballad with a piano and synth introduction".

 

Lavigne has said the song "is about being with someone you love, and you have to say goodbye, and all the little things you miss about them". The song may have been inspired by Lavigne's husband, Deryck Whibley, although in an interview with The Belfast Telegraph she did not confirm thisAccording to her, she did not intend the song to be a love song, but she was writing a slow song and the process brought out "all that emotional stuff" in her. "It's not cheesy, because I wrote it", she said. "If I was older, a professional writer coming up with all that, that would be lame."

 

The song will have a physical release in Japan on June 30, coupled with the track "Girlfriend (Japanese Version)".

 

The song was due to be released in the U.S. on May 8, 2007. However, 2 weeks before the planned release, "Girlfriend" peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, causing the single to be delayed.

I agree with you Kelly but I am almost certain 'I Can Do Better' will be a single at some point. She seems to like that one a lot and I hated it at first but I think it's great now. ^_^

 

I look forward to the video for WYG - I think without a doubt my favourite song of this year and I think it could be massive if they use it in a tv show or something - it just has that appeal. And I think it will help the album more than 'Girlfriend' - if you compare the two they're miles apart. :lol:

I heard a rumour that the record company want this single to be 3rd now and are pushing for 'The Best Damn Thing' to be released 2nd.

 

I think that's an awful decision to make as it's far too similar to 'Girlfriend' and should be kept for 3rd or 4th single at a push if released at all. :(

I'm not fond of this album at all :( There are about three good songs on it imo, including 'Girlfriend' and 'When You're Gone'. :(
