Hang on a sec... if Mcfly usually sell so well early on in the week, couldn't one of the other singles in the top 5 overhaul them as the week goes on? I wouldn't start putting my bets on Mcfly being a definite No 1 to be honest... Look what happened to the Manics on Sunday...

i think they look strong for #1 cause you got to remember their core fanbase are kids and no school on saturday so they will buy like crazy. plus they are doing instore signing + loads of tv promo. the dvd single has exclusive footage and cd single has a poster its just like all their releases their record company goes all out to get their fanbase to buy in the first week, desperation tactics if you ask me!! they have to do alll this to get #1. then what happens the song drops like stone cause the wider public don't buy it in the 2nd week. mcfly are crappy cause they give us such c**p chart runs, i wish they could be stopped and denied #1 this time around

Baby's coming back is now 58 on itunes

translyvania has been on the singles chart for amonth on downloads only and was 98 on sunday so someone out of their fan base must be buying it

tv peomo this time has been slim they have only done gmtv, loose women and pop world thats it

its just that they have had a 34 date sell out tour to help promote the single

their is only 1 signing wed and 1 thur

5 number1 singles not counting star girl didn't have alot of singings and big promo yet they still topped the charts

star girl was the only track that really had big promo with 3 for £5 offer and a whole week of signings

Plus theres nothing stopping any other act doing big promo

Edited by its me

Gutted! I actually thought they wouldn't be number one this time around

We should start taking bets now on what number it will fall to next week

Well done Travis.

Can they climb do you think?

I suppose anything could happen this week with the Bank Holiday. Sorry, answering my own question.

Only just see this about McFly. Not my sort of music but good on the lads. No one can accuse them of not working hard.

I like the new McFly song. It's probably one of only two or three of their singles that deserves the success imo ^_^

your wrong with a few facts....they did a signing yesterday in brighton. in fact they did two! canterbury also. they are doing 7 signings in total this week from monday just gone till next monday

they were on paul o'grady today plus they are on tmf all last week they had an ad for a lucky person to meet them on tour, the promo is full on! plus i forgot to mention you can also buy the track by text. watch it tumble next week

Chart run will be worse than Walk This Way! 1-12-38-100
Dont get how Amerie is only top 15   it was there on downloads alone so must be selling hardly any physicals........ :(

If yesterday was a bank holiday could it have an effect to her physical sales?

JoJo should have better sales on saturday since most of her audience are the mini's
Lol but theyre not, most of her audience are 15 or older...like us!

Shows who their target audience is. Can't understand this desperation for singles to chart at the top it's albums that count & McFly's latest hasn't sold well. I agree the single will drop like a stone next week.

They are lucky they are the only type of band of this ilk but I still think their pop career will be shortlived. If you need to do signings & have gimmicks to sell a £1.99 cd the signs aren't good.

SPLIT UP PLEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASE no one wants u no more. its just our old nans buying the songs off iTunes

Most cds come in at least one format thats only £1.99...

But i agree it smacks of desperation.

Well I'm the only one who will be pleased if McFly are #1 on Sunday, albeit due to their cover of the Jellyfish classic song.

I'm pleased for its songwriter Andy Sturmer - who was that near rariety in pop music a lead singer/drummer.

If you pop into HMV or Virgin you should try & pick up a copy of The Best Of Jellyfish

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDVUS280.JPG

Which you should be able to pick up for under £10 - brilliant power pop.

Jellyfish were one of the most criminally underrated bands of the early 1990s. I saw them support INXS and they were great live.

PS. Andy Sturmer plays drums & sings backing vocals on Nerina Pallot's next single "Peg" a cover of the 1970s Steely Dan classic and has been recently writing with 1980s Pop princesses Susannah Hoffs & Deborah Gibson.

While other members of the seminal cult band have gone on to work with Beck, Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Nerina Pallot, Air & Hanson.

Bank holiday sales ALWAYS seem to have an effect on most artists [some more than others too...]

It wouldn't surprise me if Amerie climbed to a top 5 position by the end of the week tbh.
