the latest is that the whole 'forced shutter' theory may be false and that the kidnapper actually entered the apartment through the unlocked front door.

Whilst it's pretty awful to criticise the parents at this time - it is a gross act of irresponsibility to a) leave THREE toddlers un-attended for however much time and however near you are and B) to leave a door unlocked if you do so... madness.

I think this whole furore with the suspect is shameful - he's an innocent man right now and his life has been utterly ruined by these accusations. How dare the media name him and splash his photo all over the TV, newspapers and internet.

^^ yeah, i actually think that's f***ed up. have these people NO shame?

This is going to sound heartless I guess but is anyone else sick of the coverage about this girl ?

Kids go missing every day with no reward money, blanket 24/7 news coverage, fighting funds and so on yet Madeleine while her case is sad is no different from any other kid that goes missing

The fact she is blonde, blue eyed, middle class, supposedly angelic appearance, doctors as parents etc seems to make her a special case in the media, if it had been a black kid from a run down council estate in Peckham and the parents were on the dole I bet it would have long since dropped off the news tickers and there would be no "fighting funds"

I hope she is found but the media overkill is ridiculous

parents and family seem very media savvy

and yes - I am a little weary of the story.

I am sure the parents are distraught and a missing child is terrible - but she is not the only child missing.

but maybe all the publicity will make other parents think twice before leave their children alone so they can go out for a meal

The door was left unlocked?? That sounds a bit suspicious to me....

parents have said all along they left the door open

I was discussing this with my friends the other day

and apparnatly it has something to do with a woman

and I'm confused about the entry

I thought the window was left open...

and how long after did the parents report to the police?

I mean the kidnapper could have been out of the country by then.

Chances are the 'something to do with a woman' is just a rumour

And it would have been EXTREMELY HARD to smuggle a child out of the country, what with baggage checks etc., the kidnapper would've had to steal her passport as well to get her out by ship/plane etc.

its a horrible thing to happen to someone but in all fairness they shouldnt have left them alone. there is a reason for hotel staff and babysitters. one parent couldve stayed with the children. but its a bit late to be pointing the blame

I agree.

Without sounding heartless, the media coverage is like the death of Princess Diana all over again isn't it?

not from Portugal - it's easy to drive... it's the gateway to Europe remember. You can cross the country borders easily without any checks whatsoever.

unfortunately not as hard as it should be as long as you don't fly

being insane I managed to take a baby hoody to France without a passport - and on journey home when asked a passport control said I forgot to get him one - and they let me walk through!!!! :o

There are so many conflicting stories with this case. I heard a UK ex-detective getting interviewed last night. He seemed to have inside knowledge of the case. He said there is absolutely no evidence the kid was abducted from the apartment. He said there was no sign of forced entry and that the apartment doors were left open/unlocked by the parents? He said the police had found no evidence of an intruder in the apartment.

His best guess is that the kid woke up and wandered out the apartment to try to find her mum. Unfortunately she took a wrong turn and headed out onto the road. He said police dogs picked up her scent for about 150 yards until the outside of a supermarket at which point the dogs lost the scent. He reckons she was put in a car.

He suspects the abduction was totally opportunist. Some weirdo came across her by chance and took her. The cop says this suggests she wasn't stolen to order. It also suggests the person responsible was local and the cop thinks the kid is still in Praia da Luz (dead or alive).

But who knows?????

I'm with you on that one mate... I know it sounds a bit cruel, but there is a lot of truth in what you say... It was the same when that blonde model was raped and killed outside her home in Croydon, how come the media didn't pick up on the other woman from Croydon, who was neither blonde nor a model, who had been raped and killed as well in pretty similar circumstances and likely by the same man some time before the model was killed....? The media just totally "sexes" things up when a pretty blonde girl is involved.... Pretty sick really innit.....? <_< <_<

It's the same in the States as well, Hispanic and Black kids go missing or are killed, they'd may as well be fukkin' Martians for all the bloody pigs or the media care, but a pretty blonde Cheerleader or summat..... Front page fukkin' news and every cop and FBI agent in the district is out on a manhunt.......

we dont normaly see eye to eye on many things craig, but on this im 100% with you.

We do disagree about a lot of things as do me and Scott and me and Russ, well particularly about Maggie lol but that's one of the things I like about this place debate and discussion would be boring if everyone agreed on everything

As for my views on Madeleine I always believe in telling it how I see it but given the Diana style feeling of emotion that seems to be rife in this country at the moment on the issue I was not sure whether I should keep such a viewpoint to myself but it is interesting that others think the same way

I'm not accusing them of anything... but is it just me who rather dislikes the McCann parents? Especially the father, who seems a rather cold fish to say the least? The way they're being so media savvy, being pictured strolling on the beach, eating ice creams, and today him topless jogging... it just doesn't feel right to me.

If I'd left the door open for a kidnapper to snatch one of my 3 toddler kids, I'd be hiding away in absolute utter shame, not showing off in front of the press cameras.

Which leads me back to my point which I made earlier in the thread..... No mate you're not the only one who's a bit suss about the parents tbh.... Smart, university educated people tend NOT to leave their kids on their tod in a fukkin' hotel room with the sodding DOOR UNLOCKED..... <_< <_< These are professional people ffs, aint they ever heard of Nannies, Au Pairs, baby-sitters, etc...? Christ, they'd be just about the ONLY professional couple in the entire country who DON'T on a regular basis use the services of at least one of those child-care professionals.. And the fact that the resort actually had an on-site baby-sitting service as well..... I mean, come on, do me a favour... Don't want one of those "funny foreigners" looking after your kids then, eh....? Yeah, cos the way you went about looking after them in a foreign country really fukkin' paid off didn't it......? <_<

And this "fighting fund" as well.... I'm just wondering who dreamt that one up....

It was like when the Chief Constable of the Met, Sir Ian Blair was criticising the press attention lavished upon Holly and Jessica and he got fukkin' roasted for it... All he was saying what that there were other kids out there, not necessarily little cute blonde girls, who were also victims and hadn't really had the same sort of press coverage, and he was right to say it I reckon, about the only time Ian Blair actually ever has been right....
