Posted March 10, 200619 yr Lyrically my most extreme band is Slayer, they are notorious for being very explicit in their words, they are also the fastest band i listen to playing at up to 6 notes a secound and having a song that has 3 verses, 2 choruses, 2 guitar solos and lasts a minute and a half  . Musically the most extreme band i like is Slipknot. so how heavy/extreme do you go?
March 11, 200619 yr I'm not really that much of a metal fan and so I don't realy go THAT heavy at all  I suppose the heaviest is Avenged Sevenfold  I'm more into Indie, Punk and Emo myself ;)
March 11, 200619 yr Erm, Between the Buried and Me, KillWhitneyDead, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Mendeed, Winter Solice, Rise with the Fallen. That's around as heavy as one goes B) .
March 11, 200619 yr Hmm...my most extreme is probably something like Suicide. They're not heavy rock, but then I don't consider heavy rock to be Extreme at all...especially not Extreme.
March 12, 200619 yr My heaviest would be A7X. I don't like really shouty/screamy stuff where you don't understand what they are saying. Give me Punk anyday <3.
March 12, 200619 yr my heaviest is the Hives!!! i cant stand metal, give me Funk/rock/pop/Glam Rock anyday...!!
March 12, 200619 yr When one ascribes such terms as 'extreme' to music it's all a bit arbitrary to be honest; Slayer can be considered extreme to some; I certainly thought they were when I was 13 years old and heard "Reign In Blood" for the first time and I still kinda like em a bit, but Slayer may be 'fast' and may have aggressive sounding music and lyrics, but when you're talking 'extreme', you're really talking about bands who push musical and genre boundaries to the absolute limit - so in Metal, it would be guys like Dark Throne, Zyklon, Barzum, Godflesh or Emperor more than Slayer, who are, frankly a bit passe now in the 21st Century. And then you have the likes of Alec Empire, Glenn Branca, Sonic Youth, Steve Albini/Big Black, Neurosis, Isis, Mogwai, Merzbow, Skinny Puppy, Jim 'Foetus' Thirwell, Rhys Fulber, Aphex Twin, Godspeed You Black Emperor and to a certain extent Radiohead, who are all out there pushing the boundaries of their respective genres...
March 12, 200619 yr I really don't like "Eavy Metal" as Zane Lowe calls it. The heaviest stuff I'd probabbly listen to is Green Day and that is saying something, I'm more of an indie/Brit Pop person.
March 13, 200619 yr I guess it would depend on your definition of "extreme". I like a bunch of death metal and black metal stuff... Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, Nasum, etc... and some quite 'out-there' stuff like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Beecher, etc.
I quite enjoy a bit of Cradle and especially Dimmu Borgir, but I wouldn't really describe what either of them do as Black Metal anymore, strictly speaking, it's too polished, too orchestral and grandiose. Black Metal is primitive and avant garde...I realise that sounds like a total contradiction, but listen to an Emperor, Dark Throne or Barzum record and you'll see what I mean. It's only really Cradle's first album "Principles of Evil Made Flesh" and Dimmu Borgir's "Stormblast", "For All Tid" and "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" in which either band did what could be described as 'Black Metal', everything else they did after that is incredibly heavy Gothic Metal....
March 13, 200619 yr Mmm, true. I was a bit unsure whether I wanted to lump them into that category to be honest, but yeah, you're quite right. I probably should've replaced one of them with Mayhem.
March 14, 200619 yr I don't know how extreme I may be, but my philosophy in regards of music is A good song is a good song, whatever genre it is. So, it's pretty diverse. Though I'm less into metal and classic than any other genre... Edited March 14, 200619 yr by Ephemere
March 14, 200619 yr my philosophy in regards of music is A good song is a good song, whatever genre it is. Amen to that. Variety is the spice of life, so they say.
March 14, 200619 yr Amen to that. Variety is the spice of life, so they say. Finally... I'm so sick and tired of reading people's lack of interest when it's not popular or something like that. I tend to listen to the music without even try to know about the band/artist's life... Music all the way...
March 14, 200619 yr Author Indeedy, why should the background of a band influence your opinion of their music? If they make good music that's all that should really matter.
March 14, 200619 yr I'm getting into a melodic death metal band called Arch Enemy. Edited March 14, 200619 yr by Yoshimo
March 14, 200619 yr Arch Enemy are awesome, I have offically decided. Edited March 14, 200619 yr by Yoshimo
March 14, 200619 yr My most extreme kind of thing is probably Arch Enemy, a melodic thrash metal band. I've only just started getting into them, though. Before that, it was probably Nightwish. EDIT: It had to be done, it was the only way. ;) Edited March 14, 200619 yr by Yoshimo
March 14, 200619 yr I can do heavy but I get bored by it easily. A lot of metal songs sound the same to me. I'm liking bands like Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies, Secondsmile, Yourcodenameis:milo and Devil Sold His Soul which is more intelligent hardcore/metal and doesn't have cheesy solos in it.
