From an interview with Automatic [ you can tell its quiet on the Will front]

What do you think about all the manufactured acts, seeing as you all met 'organically' at school?

Frost: "It's rubbish, isn't it?"

Iwan: "With things like X Factor, sometimes there's someone really exceptional. Will Young broke away from it and he's seen as an artist. If you truly are meant to do that, you'll do it."

Frost: "I feel sorry for those ones who don't end up making that much money out of it and just get used like a puppet for two years. Then they look back at it and are like 'I've just been humiliated... and I've got no money'."

Iwan: "Sometimes I think it might be the only way to be famous, but I don't like manufactured bands. It's not good, it's not cool."

Will tops bill in 'Unite of the Stars' concert

Bellville Velodrome will be hosting the fabulous Unite of the Stars music spectacular on November 3.

British superstar Will Young will light up the stage. Joining him at the Unite of the Stars will be 1980s pop sensation Bananarama, the Mexican-American heartthrob Marcos Hernandez, X Factor 2005 winner Shayne Ward and talented Italian Patrizio Buanne.

Multi-platinum selling and multiple Brit award-winner Young has developed into one of the UK's most successful and creative solo artists.

In less than four years he's won two Brits, had four number one singles, sold over 3.5 million albums and been added to the Guinness Book of Records for his first single, which is the fastest-selling chart début by a male artist.

Hernandez is a handsome vocalist who can easily switch music genres to cater to the mood of his audience, whether it's pop, R 'n B or ballads.

Shayne Ward, with his hits That's My Goal and No Promises, is another hottie who will be joining them.

Added to this handsome bill of artists is Italian Buanne, giving Cape Town a taste of his friendly charm, soaring voice and stunning good looks, after his recent highly successful, sold-out shows at Carnival City, Johannesburg.

The two stars from Bananarama will round the show off with their bright, sophisticated and brilliant pop music.

Tickets range from R200 to R260 and are available at Shoprite Checkers stores and Computicket outlets or online at www.ticketshop.co.za

Thanks TT, he'll probably fly out to South Africa soon after his guest appearance with Nitin Sawhney next week, it won't be so bad though as we'll have up to date reports from his SA fans and quite a few Devotees are going over aren't they?
Thanks TT - there was an ad on TV yesterday for Patrizio's album. Nice voice but nothing outstanding.
I am so looking forward to this :yahoo: do we know if anyone from devoted is going to try and film it ^_^
I think Audrey and/or X-Pat is going and various others from the UK so I think we may be getting footage of this.

I CRINGED WHEN WILL YOUNG SANG HEY YA

By Jo Whiley

RADIO 1 star Jo has compiled The Live Lounge, featuring acoustic songs by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol and Arctic Monkeys from her morning show. Here she reveals the secrets behind making the CD.

WHEN a band come in I have no idea what they're going to cover - I like to be in the same position as the listeners. I think it makes it more exciting.

Occasionally they tell me their plans before I can stop them... Kasabian have done that to me.

The covers are what make it unique and that comes across on the album. It gives bands the chance to do something people just wouldn't expect, like Lemar doing The Darkness and Will Young doing Hey Ya.

Some of them really stand out - such as Franz Ferdinand doing Gwen Stefani's What You Waiting For?

When they first started playing the chords I just thought it was going to be terrible but Alex Kapranos and the boys pulled it off.

They'd been in a couple of years before after they'd been up all night partying. That time they did a Pulp cover and were about as out of tune as you can possibly get.

But this time they put a lot of time and effort into it and really redeemed themselves.

When Will came in to do Hey Ya I had no idea what he was up to - he even had a choir.

For the first minute I was cringeing. I just thought it wasn't working at all. Then the way he was singing suddenly brought the lyrics to life and for the first time I really got what the song was about. It was spellbinding in the end.

I get so excited when it's a band I love. When the Arctic Monkeys came in it was just me, the engineer and my producer with the band.

I felt so lucky, it was like they were playing a gig just for me.

Those moments really stay with you - listening to their cover of Love Machine on the album I get shivers up my spine.

Things do go wrong - Jack Johnson forgot his own lyrics - but I like that sort of thing. It shows it's all genuine.

When Snow Patrol were in last time I persuaded them to do Chasing Cars even though they weren't supposed to.

It was beautiful, I was almost in tears - then they hit a bum note right at the end so wouldn't let us use it. Gutted!

Overall I'm so happy with the album. It really brings home how special the Live Lounge is.

Listen to Jo's new show In Live Music We Trust on Wednesday 9pm-10pm as well as her show Monday-Friday from 10am-1pm on Radio 1.

The Will dissers will be delighted at the headline but what a shock they'll get when they read further down.

The way Will changed & stripped down Hey Ya was nothing short of AMAZING. :cheer: It was like listening to a completely new song. I'm sure all his visits to the Live Lounge have made a lot of listeners open their ears to his incredible TALENT.

(Sorry apparently this is from last week's paper  )
