Good episode, but incredibly disappointed when Sir Derek Jacobi regenerated into JOHN SIMM....  I mean, come on, The Master is supposed to be The Doctor's arch-nemesis, the ultimate baddie.... And who do they get to play his younger counterpart...?? The baby-faced JOHN SIMM, oooohh, really scary.....

Sorry, but they've just so blown what could potentially have been the greatest Dr Who story of this new series by a woeful piece of mis-casting.... Surely a better choice of younger actor to play a young Master would've been someone like Cillian Murphy ("Red Eye", ""28 Days Later", "Batman Begins"....) or Johnathan Rhys Myers ("Gormenghast", "Match Point", "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead")

Cillian Murphy would have been a good choice. :o He can play the bag guy very well as shown in Red Eye, but he's more Hollywood now, and I think the producers went with John Simm because of how well known he is now and if people see "John Simm in Dr. Who" they're gonna want to see what he's like in it which will mean increased ratings.

A big continuity error i noticed is that The Master cannot regenerate due to his Time Lord body having died a long time ago.

He can only take over over existing bodies eg. the ambulance driver (Eric Roberts) in the TV Movie.

The movie ended with The Master falling into the eye of harmony.

Perhaps this will be explained in the next two episodes, or maybe not. It should though.

i doubt they will explain it.

pehaps looking inton the watch gave him a new set of 13 regenerations?

Could well be.

Could well be.

also, the film was made by an american company. there could be some kind of copyright there?

i doubt they will explain it.

That would be a neat way of getting round the fact that The Doctor is running out of regenerations. Of course that would also spoil my long-running theory. I thought they might tweak the rules so that the limit referred to regenerations in the same gender. Therefore, they could have had a female Doctor before switching back to males and starting the count again.

Frankly, I reckon it was sheer laziness... "Oh, we'll just go with John Simm cos we've got him already for Life On Mars, so we dont have to be arsed looking for a more suitable actor".... He just aint right for The Master. Nothing against the bloke as an actor, but it just seems like such a step down going from Derek Jacobi to Simm, everything was right about that episode until that point, and what fantastic acting from Jacobi, he blasted everyone off the screen; I hope Freema Agyeman was taking notes... To be fair though, Simm's not as bad as Eric Roberts....  How awful was he....?

erm.. he did what the script told him to.

simm is good for the master, although complain about everything.

you hate tennant, freema and simm.

why watch it??

A good actor does NOT just merely do "what the script tells him" mate.... A good actor actually INTERPRETS HIS CHARACTER (just compare Roberts to Derek Jacobi, go on....), you may know a lot about Dr Who, but frankly you know sod all about what actually constitutes good acting mate. Eric Roberts failed abysmally to interpret the character.... McGann, however, actually did what he could with such a lousy script as the one he was given, and at least managed some interpretation, Roberts may as well have phoned in his "performance". And like I said, Tenant is actually beginning to get a bit better now, he always does well in the Steven Moffatt stories because they actually give him some dramatic gravitas to cling onto... He IS a good actor, but a good actor does need a decent script and a decent co-star to feed off... Both of which he got in the "Family of Blood" two-parter when he was paired with Jessica Stevenson, who is MILES better than Freema, and the recent "Utopia" when he was side by side with one of this country's finest Shakesperean actors - Sir Derek Jacobi, Freema had might as well not have even bothered to turn up to be honest, even the blue insect girl out-acted her.. The "Blink" episode was also excellent, again, another actress who can wipe the floor with Freema in terms of acting ability..... Tenant can rise to the occasion when given a chance, I can see that now (but I still dont rate him as much as Eccleston as The Doctor, still a bit too much screeching and mugging, although, thankfully, there's been considerably less of that in recent episodes, he's starting to get more serious...)

I have nothing really against John Simm, as I said, he's great in "Life On Mars", but he is JUST NOT RIGHT as The Master..... The Master needs to have a sinister quality, Simm couldn't do sinister if he tried, the way Jacobi turned from the kindly professor into The evil Master was absolutely, ahem, masterful (pardon the pun).... When the transformation happened, I just couldn't help but LAUGH when Simm attempted to ape Jacobi's style..... Sorry, but Simm is good in lighter roles, he is not 'sinister master villain' material......

As for John Barrowman - well, his return is about as welcome as a fart in a space-suit frankly...... The guy is one of the most useless fukkin' actors I have ever seen in a BBC production.... He ruined "Torchwood"....

As for why I watch "Dr Who"...? Well, because I always have mate, even when it was sh!t and had Bonnie fukkin' irritating ginger bint Langford in it, even when it had Peter "Bland" Davidson in it.... I still persevered with it.... Because the stories were usually interesting if nothing else.... And the first series was undeniably excellent, consistently strong stories, consistently well acted (well, apart from the annoying John Barrowman obviously...).. But, the standard has slipped quite a bit in this and the last series... I used to think it was all Dave Tenant's fault and how he interpreted the character, but now I see that it wasn't all him, the scripts were actually pretty dire more than half the time, and the constant ripping off of films for ideas just gets on my t*ts (like, HOW MANY times are they gonna do variations on "Event Horizon"?....)

even when it had Peter "Bland" Davidson in it.... I still persevered with it....

i dont think you should say that.

hes a very respectable and talented actor who i happen to know.

and bonnie langford was what a companion is ment to be. their ment to get chased, fall over, scream and let the doctor save them.

next youll be trying to tell me the Mark Strickson who played Turlough was a bad actor.

i dont think you should say that.

Oh fukk off!! I'll say what I damn well like..... Pete Davidson was good as Tristan in "All Creatures Great And Small", which I liked as a nipper, but Christ what a disappointment he was coming after Tom "GOD" Baker. I was about 9 or 10 and I wondered why the hell this "boring bloke" had replaced the "cool guy with the scarves and the jelly babies"..... :P

And will you PLEASE refrain from confusing who you send messages to on bloody MY SPACE to actual PERSONAL FRIENDS..... You did the same thing with Justin Hawkins..... Again, I ask, do you and Pete Davidson go out for a drink or a meal together..? Go out to the cinema together do you....? Meet up round his place for a few drinks on a regular basis....? If not, then YOU ARE NOT MATES, are you....? Stop trying to make out like you actually know these people on some kind of personal level, it really is sad, pathetic Fanboy behaviour... And a little bit creepy to be honest.....

Turlough, what I remember of him, was alright.... But Bonnie Langford was just utterly useless... Much more so than Peri or Tegan....
