We had the whole Oasis V Blur back in the 90s amongst others but I'm wondering...

In 2011 what will be the chart battles from the 00s that everybody remembers?

Open to suggestions...

2000

Spiller V Truesteppers

The chart battle was highly publicised as ex Spice Girl Victoria Beckham hoped to score a solo #1 against Spiller's hit which featured a certain Ms Ellis-Bextor on vocals. In the end after tonnes of press coverage Spiller won out. The media had a hissyfit again at the end of 2003 when Victoria and Sophie released singles on the same day though Beckham reached #3 whilst SEB stalled at #9...

2000

Westlife V Bob The Builder

:puke: TWO Hideous records but for once justice was served as Bob The Frickin Builder denied $h!tlife the Christmas #1 of the year.

2002

Will Young V Shakira

The Pop Idol winner's debut single 'Evergreen/Anything Is Possible' became the fastest selling debut single of all time selling over a million copies in its first week crushing Shakira's 'Whenever Wherever' which still sold an impressive amount to take the runner up spot.

2002

Elvis V Gareth Gates

Rumours that Elvis VS JXL 'A Little Less Conversation' would be deleted to allow golden boy twit Gareth Gates to zoom to the top of the chart with his second single 'Anyone Of Us'. Gareth managed to do it in the end anyway...

2002

Girls Aloud V One True Voice

What a bigun this was :o The race for Christmas #1 saw the Popstars: The Rivals groups release a single on the same day. Girls Aloud trounced their boyband counterparts and whilst OTV quickly faded the girls have gone on to rack up 14 more top 10 singles.

2003

Christina Aguilera V Dannii Minogue

Aggie's 'Beautiful' denied Fannii scoring her first ever UK #1 despite her atop in midweeks sales flashes. The single however still went on to become Dannii's biggest hit in the UK to date.

XMAS 2003

The last GOOD battle for Christmas #1 imo before X Factor ruined it... Micheal Andres + Gary Jules cover version of 'Mad World' went up against that pile of w*** Christmas song from The Darkness, BO Selecta!, Atomic Kitten, Blue, Sugababes and The Pop Idols also released singles on the same day. SEE why don't we get battles like that for Xmas #1 anymore? :(

2004

Eamon V Frankee

Their foulmouthed public spat dominated the charts for 7 weeks between them. Whether it was a publicity stunt or what, f*** knows.

2004

Eminem V Destiny's Child V Usher V Britney V Christina

After a vile October for sales, November 04 saw 5 of America's biggest acts launch singles on the same day. The winner? Eminem :manson:

2005

2 Pac V Mariah Carey

2 Pac denied Mariah a #1 with 'We Belong Together' in July by less than 500 copies...

Anymore? :D

Nelly v JoJo

JoJo couldve been youngest artist ever to have a number one in 2004 but no Nelly had to ruin it with his $h!t tastic music

and

somebody vs S Club

Say Goodbye so shouldve been number 1 -_-

Dannii was never #1 in the midweeks with 'I Begin To Wonder', when she was #2 in the midweeks I was just hoping she wouldn't fall off. :o

My sources lie.

Oooh another memorable one was PCD vs Oasis. I remember the sales between them were really close and changed throughout the week.

That would have been R.Kelly <_<

2006 Rihanna vs Christina Aquilera (both pipped by Shakira - HDL that rose from #3 to #1 after falling from #2 the week before!)

What about all the hype made over Kylie v Victoria Beckham.

Obv we know who won in the end and it wasnt even a battle lol

That would have been R.Kelly <_<

ah yes. with that stupid Ignition song :puke2:

My sources lie.

Dannii was beaten by 11k in the end. :(

Other notable ones I can think of are when Rachel Stevens was #1 in the midweeks with 'Sweet Dreams', but in the end had to settle for #2 behind that Black Eyed Peas monstrosity.

Also... Madonna's first single from American Life was #1 all week, just pipped at the end. :o That was quite well publicised.

There was a silly one wasnt there, something like Britney's Perogative vs. Christina's Carwash

and I think Kylie was in there to?

The whole top 6 was American debuts :(
