Posted June 27, 200718 yr I'm not a political person, I never get involved in poltics, but do you think anything will change under his leadership, I could see a general election coming sooner to be honest, I don't think anything change, as they probably have the same policies.

Good riddance to the murdering bast*rd Tony B-Liar The fact that he is going to be a middle east peace envoy when he has caused so much destruction and loss of life to the middle east appointing him middle east peace envoy is like UNICEF appointing Ian Huntley as its global ambassador   As for Brown I expect very little change policy wise, maybe less spin but little change in policy
June 27, 200718 yr tbh i think he will be pretty much ok... as 'ok' as a british pm can be in this day and age anyway.
June 27, 200718 yr he's unelectable as a PM, I think. His utterly gruesome habit of slurping and sucking in breath as he speaks reminds me of John Merrick... I keep expecting him to say "I AM human" when he's wittering on. He has as much personality as Thatcher had decency. On a lighter note, a friend of mine in Bristol went out with his wife (is it Sarah?) throughout their University years. She's quite a girl by all accounts - and he has the photos to prove it ;)
June 27, 200718 yr Good riddance to the murdering bast*rd Tony B-Liar Blair is a saint compared to the "evil witch" Margaret Thatcher. At least he was not responsible for two recessions; 3 million+ unemployed; the destruction of the coal & steel industries & the trade union movement; selling off huge chunks of the public sector (Railways, ITV stations, Electric, Gas, Phone companies, etc) for ridiculous low prices; enforcing homo-phobic policies in schools (Clause 28); the race riots of 1981; squandering the North Sea Oil resources; corrupt politicians within her own cabinet; the cynical use of the Falklands War and a snap election to win a second term in Government; employing a police force and a large chunk of the media run by her friend Rupert Murdoch to abuse & disenfranchise her own citizens; the evil that was The Poll Tax were an average person frequently had to pay more in council tax than a multi-millionaire & I could go on & on & on. As mentioned before, if Margaret Thatcher & the Conservative Government had not supported Saddam Hussein's abusive Government (who were responsible for the genocide of 350K - 400K of his own citizens) with £1.7 billion of arms & aid (£5.6 billion in today's money) then maybe Tony Blair would not have felt the need to support a War in Iraq.
June 27, 200718 yr he he.... lets not start another 'hate thatcher' thread :) we all know what a c/unt she is/was. the subject is brown :)
June 27, 200718 yr Gordon Brown seems like such a boring person. When he speaks it is uncomfortable viewing. As he takes a deap breath, it looks as though he is going to puke all over the place. Seems like an extremly intelligent man though, definatly more suitable than Cameron, that's for sure. Blair certainly got a better send of than Thatcher anyway. Although he was most certainly wrong for Iraq I think Blair was a very good PM, and one of the finest speakers out of all the world leaders these days. He has done alot of good, especially in the North of Ireland. It would never have happened without him, that is something everyone involved seems to agree on. Also, how does everyone think Brown and Bush will get along? I can't really see them hitting it off tbh, certainly not in the same way Blair did with Bush. Does anyone think Brown will withdraw the British troops from Iraq?

I cba turning this into another Maggie thread but the recessions were not her doing they were GLOBAL recessions that affected the entire globe, have you not heard of the economic buzzword "when America sneezes everyone else gets a cold" ? these recessions that Maggie was in power would have happened under ANY PM who was in charge at the time The election was in 83 mate a year after the Falklands and 4 years after getting into power, most PM's hold an election every 4 years so why shouldn't Maggie ? As for Blair you have conveniently forgot : Cash for honours Cherie's friendship with an Australian fraudster who has an international arrest warrant out for him (Peter Foster) Spin "burying" of bad news Mandelson mortgage fraud Prescott and Blunkett affairs Blunkett and Mandelson getting visas illegally for friends Lying about Iraqi WMD's to the nation Selling of weapons and planes to Indonesia who in East Timor have slaughtered over 250,000 in the last decade Causing the suicide or even murder of Dr David Kelly Banning of demonstrations in Westminster 4.5m unemployed now on disability benefits most to keep the unemployment figures down Arresting pensioners for shouting at Jack Straw Arresting peaceful anti war protesters in parliament square ID Cards The pre meditated murder of 27,000 Iraqi civilians in Shock And Awe Invasions of privacy and big brother society that would have Orwell turning in his grave MRSA I am sure there are plenty of other examples of a government that Robert Mugabe would be proud of Edited June 27, 200718 yr by Vic Vega

I keep expecting him to say "I AM human" when he's wittering on. Gordon Brown had an operation on his eye as a teenager. This affected some of the nerves in his face.
June 27, 200718 yr He's the Labour leader. After how easily the Tory party split and rounded on its own members and its leader over grammar schools, neither of the other two major parties are in a more electable position at the moment. Gordon Brown has to show that he is NOT Blair. I suspect he will try to focus on public services more and appeal to the voters who are left of centre and have been lost to the SNP and Lib Dems during Blair's last few years. IMHO, he won't take the UK troops out of Iraq against the wishes of the legal Iraqi government in Baghdad. Provinces which the UK has already handed over still have sporadic serious trouble and the Iraqi troops and police need occasional back up.
June 27, 200718 yr I think we should all give him a chance to see if he's going to be the same as Blair or his own man. If he does well over the next year, he may well call an election, if he does badly he will leave it as long as possible. Mind you I have to support him he is MP for my home town
June 27, 200718 yr tbh, i think that blairs 'success' was built upon browns fiscal acheivments. now hes the daddy im cautiously optomistic of something reasonable from him. never mind his personal looks, its his ability and skill as a politician that matters.

I agree, think we have to give him a chance, lets see how he shapes up as a Prime Minister.
June 28, 200718 yr MRSA I think you'll find that is the fault of Thatcher's privatisation of hospital cleaning  Never really had much of an opinion on Brown but for some reason I have a good feeling about him. It's strange though I was in London yesterday on this historic day, and my destination? One of what some people see as one of Blair's biggest flops the Dome! Or the O2 Arena as it now is to see Snow Patrol and it's a pretty decent venue even if it just looks like Wembley Arena with blue seats once you get in properly though I liked the Dome and lets not forgot that the original planning started under the Tories anyway and Blair went ahead with it to keep a promise. Anyway back to Brown I'm just gonna wait and see, the fact I didn't mind him was what swung me to vote Labour as well as fear of a Tory government but next time I'll vote for The Lib Dems who I've always supported, after all is anyone really gonna vote Cameron into office?
June 28, 200718 yr Nothing will change - We'll still be America's b**ch, we'll still have spin, sleaze and lies, we'll still have the rich getting away with paying their taxes.... It's the same ship sailing the same course, all that's happened is the figure-head has changed, nothing more.... The un-elected Whitehall Mandarins still captain the vessel.....
