The Number Ones: Spring 2004

So I got bored and decided to use everyhit.com to backdate TOTB no.1s all the way back to January 2004. I chose 2004 because it was a defining year in music for me, and it features loads of classic tunes.

Just like in the current TOTB chart-toppers, one weekers are rare. Usually if a song is only at the top for a week its either because there's a lot of other good stuff out atm or its to fill in a week until something better comes along. But the majority of the songs, as you'll see, are at no.1 for at least 2 or 3 weeks with the exceptional records spending maybes 5 or 6 at the top.

Right so i'm listing the no.1s in order of season, starting with winter-spring 2004. Thought it would be better to do it this way as there probs wouldn't be enough songs to list monthly and doing a yearly one would take too long and would be a bit dull to read. So i'll update the list every few days with a new season ^_^

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

Number One for 2 weeks: 5th - 18th Jan 2004

Absolute classic, arguably their best song to date. Really started the year with a bang and probablies the song Franz will be best known for

Snow Patrol - Run

Number One for 2 weeks: 19th Jan - 1st Feb 2004

Belting tune, and the one that first got me into the Patrol... and this isn't even their best! They have a few more no.1s on the way this year

Keane - Somewhere Only We Know

Number One for 5 weeks: 2nd Feb - 7th Mar 2004

Don't moan, this is one of their best songs to date. This fully deserves its 5 week run as it brings back such great memories for me from back in Spring '04

Snow Patrol - Chocolate

Number One for 4 weeks: 8th Mar - 4th Apr 2004

My favourite ever song by Snow Patrol, even to date. The floppage it recieved in the UK Charts was an absolute disgrace, hence why i've gave it 4 weeks!

Maroon 5 - This Love

Number One for 3 weeks: 5th - 25th Apr 2004

Played to death now but back in the day I absolutely adored this one despite not being their best single. Would have spent more than a modest 3 weeks at the top

Keane - Everybody's Changing

Number One for 3 weeks: 26th Apr - 16th May 2004

Loved this one, but its all a bit 'meh' now. If you include the modern day TOTB charts, this is the last Keane no.1 until 'Is It Any Wonder?' in 2006!

Kasabian - Club Foot

Number One for 3 weeks: 17th May - 6th June 2004

The first of many Kasabian no.1s we're gonna see, and again this isn't their best.. although it is up there with them. In retrospect, I doubt i'd have taken much notice of this back in 2004

I'll post the summer 2004 ones over the weekend!

Comments appreciated ^_^

In fact, all but Franz Ferdinand (I prefer Matinee personally) and the superb Chocloate got to #1 on my chart ^_^

There's loads more superb songs on the way

Thanks for commenting Matt

I like them all apart from Maroon 5, but the only ones that got to #1 in my backdated chart were Take Me Out, Chocolate and Club Foot. Great start B)

Cheers Damon, although the best is yet to come :funky:

I like them all apart from Club foot, I wasn't really a fan of Kasabian at the start, I like their material now, its better

I agree Mikey. didn't really take much notice of them back then, but the material they released 04-05 was easily their best B)

Thanks for commenting ^_^

Razorlight - Golden Touch

Number One for 5 weeks: 7th June - 11th July 2004

Didn't like this one much at first, but now it's a Razorlight classic and one of their best singles to date. 5 weeks might seem a bit lengthy, but this was one of the defining songs of summer 2004 B)

Snow Patrol - Spitting Games

Number One for 2 weeks: 12th - 25th July 2004

Not another Snow Patrol no.1!!!!! What can I say, this is an anthem and although the weaker of the three no.1s so far, is still fully deserving of its 2 week reign

The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now

Number One for 3 weeks: 26th July - 15th Aug 2004

One of my favourite songs ever, three weeks just doesn't do it justice but there was just so many other great tracks around that it was as long as I could give it at the top. Genius

Kasabian - LSF

Number One for 2 weeks: 16th - 29th August 2004

Couldn't find the official video for it, but I did manage to find this superb live clip from the 2004 Reading festival. It also highlights why this is my favourite Kasabian song - such an amazing live track

Autumn will follow shortly! Comments welcomed! :funky:

Fantastic No.1's, but I can't believe "Toxic" is not there... like :P I bet it was at No.2 just a milimiter behind Franz Ferdinand the week "Take Me Out" made No.1.

The Number Ones: Autumn 2004

Just another 5 to go through, starting and ending with Embrace :funky:

http://i11.tinypic.com/4rc5r3a.jpg

Embrace - Gravity

Number One for 3 weeks: 30th Aug - 19th Sep 2004

The song that first got me into Embrace, and arguably better than the original version by Coldplay. This was also used as the theme tune to ITV's shortlived comedy series 'Mike Bassett: Manager'

Razorlight - Vice

Number One for 3 weeks: 20th Sep - 10th Oct 2004

One of Razorlight's best singles from 2004, deserved top 10 success at the very least. And the video's Johnny Borrell. In a phone box. Singing about "ell oh vee eeh". Yeah

Kasabian - Processed Beats

Number One for 1 week: 11th - 17th October 2004

Love the lyrics to this one, even if they don't make an awful lot of sense. It's also ridiculously catchy and another standout track from the excellent 'Kasabian' album

The Libertines - What Became Of The Likely Lads?

Number One for 2 weeks: 18th - 31st October 2004

Absolutely adore this cracker from the Libertines. Would easily be my fave song by them, had it not been for 'Can't Stand Me Now'. Great video as well

Embrace - Ashes

Number One for 5 weeks: 1st Nov - 5th Dec 2004

My favourite song by Embrace ever, just such an uplifing, feel-good record imo. Played it to death back when it first arrived like, but thats just the way it goes, still love it

Feel free to comment :w00t:

Winter no.1s coming on Thursday ^_^

I love Vice and Golden Touch ^_^ Is like, not Okay Like?
