Last year's winners Arctic Monkeys are on the shortlist for this year's Nationwide Mercury Prize, putting them in with a chance of being the first act to win it twice in a row.

The band won in 2006 for debut album 'Whatever People Say What I Am, That's What I'm Not'. Their second LP 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' was among the 11 albums announced today (July 17) at The Hospital venue in central London.

Another former winner, Dizzee Rascal, is also on the list of 11 albums. The star will be hoping 'Maths & English' can repeat the success of 'Boy In Da Corner' back in 2003.

Other nominees include debut albums from Klaxons, Maps, Jamie T and The View.

At today's announcement The View duo Kyle Falconer and Keiren Webster played a stripped-down version of their hit 'Superstar Tradesman', while Fionn Regan performed 'Good Or Be Gone'.

The full list of nominations are as follows:

Arctic Monkeys - 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'

Klaxons - 'Myths Of The Near Future'

Amy Winehouse - 'Back To Black'

Maps - 'We Can Create'

The View - 'Hats Off To The Buskers'

Jamie T - 'Panic Prevention'

Dizzee Rascal - 'Maths & English'

Bat For Lashes - 'Fur And Gold'

Young Knives - 'Voices of Animals And Men'

Fionn Regan - 'The End Of History'

New Young Pony Club - 'Fantastic Playroom'

Basquiat Strings - 'Basquiat Strings'

I thought they'd be nominated and they have been. ^_^ Not sure who'll win it though, it could be very wide open this year but Arctic Monkeys, Wino and Jamie T are all in with a great shot I think.

I love Amy's album best out of all the Albums nominated.

I dont want The Monkeys or Amy to win though, i would rather Jamie T or New Young Pony Club.

If The View Win, i will be highly annoyed.

If The Arctic Monkeys don't win then it's no real big deal, as just to be nominated I think is something special, but i'd like them to win just so they'd be the first act ever to win twice in a row!

But for me i'm rooting for Jamie T or Arctic Monkeys

That's the current odds at the moment as well, with Arctic Monkeys and Wino current favourites to win.

i think that Amy will win (good reviews, best selling album of the years , quality music).

i d love to see arctics but its hard for them to take the prize again for a second year.

klaxons could be also a great choice.

I think either Arctics or Amy will win.

But Klaxons have the best album by a mile

1. KLAXONS

2. ARCTIC M

3. JAMIE T

Well Arctic Monkeys and Amy are favourites at the moment, but that's probably down to how much both their albums were praised and how well known the both of them now!

I really hope Klaxons don't win, I think it's a poor album tbh. Some great songs, but also some awful ones.

The thing is though with FWN being better than WPSIATWIN which won it they really deserve to win logically  But I don't think it'll happen, I have a feeling either Wino or Jamie T will win it.

I dunno why, but i've a strange feeling Young Knives might win. I really want Jamie T or the Monkeys to win though.
First act ever to be nominated 2 years running! If I had the time, I would try and come up with the definitive list of ALL the records AM have broken. Here's another one: WPSIATWIN is the ONLY album to win Best album at the Brits and Mercury Prize. There's lodas more, of course!

imo , no chance for the young knives to win .

if yopu see the winners all these years , everyone of them represent something special for eevery year.i think its time for Amy now...arctics are winners at least in my heart in every case

I hate The Young Knives, but they're quite popular with music critics so I wouldn't be suprised if they won.

Here's a betting update though:

Amy Winehouse 3.25

Jamie T 5.00

Arctic Monkeys 7.50

Klaxons 8.00

Bat For Lashes 9.00

The View 13.00

Maps 13.00

Fionn Regan 13.00

Dizzee Rascal 13.00

The Young Knives 15.00

New Young Pony Club 17.00

Basquiat Strings 17.00

Arctic Monkeys now 3rd favourites and their odds have fallen.

Hi all

I think Amy will sure win this prize. The band has much positive point. I would like to see Arctic taking prize. However, this is very hard; Because Klaxons is also a good choice.

Dizzee Rascal has showered praise on Arctic Monkeys - even though they are competing to become two-time Mercury Music Prize winners.

Both have won the coveted album honour before and were announced as nominees again this week.

"I like to see it that I'm up there with them," said Rascal. "It's good man. It's nice to see they're nominated as well as me, because they're on my album, we've worked together, we're friends."

Of Arctics front man Alex Turner he added: "He's a brilliant writer. When I hear him I can relate to a lot of it, especially with the first album, a lot of things he was saying is just like, 'Ah yeah that's just growing up and seeing the things around me, that's proper.'"

Rascal also told BBC 6 Music he thought it was natural for them to work together despite their styles being so different.

"We're just showing that we're artists, people cross genres all the time," he explained. "Music is beyond just the artists. Every piece of music comes from another piece of music.

"If it's Hip Hop then it came from Disco and so on, or that came from Rhythm and Blues. One after the other - it's all interlinked."

Betting update:

Amy Winehouse 2/1

Jamie T 4/1

Bat For Lashes 11/2

Klaxons 7/1

Arctic Monkeys 8/1

The View 12/1

Maps 12/1

Fionn Regan 12/1

Dizzee Rascal 16/1

The Young Knives 20/1

New Young Pony Club 20/1

Basquiat Strings 20/1

They have tough competition there, but they'd be well deserved winners! I think Amy Winehouse and the Klaxons have released great albums as well during the past 12 months, but I wouldn't be sad if Arctics took the prize!

Amy Winehouse is no longer favourite to win the Mercury Music Prize next week, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes.

The R&B star has been overtaken by relative unknown Bat For Lashes as the punters' favourite for the award.

"Amy's had a difficult time of it lately, and that's coincided with backers deserting her," said Ladbrokes spokesman Nick Weinberg.

Winehouse, 23, has spent several spells in rehab over recent weeks amidst reports of drug use.

She has also cancelled a string of concerts, festival appearances and award show performances.

Her soul-tinged Back To Black album was previously joint favourite to take the Mercury prize alongside Bat For Lashes' Fur And Gold.

Bat For Lashes is the stage name of singer Natasha Khan

But Winehouse has slipped over the past week. Her odds now stand at 11/4, compared to 9/4 for Bat For Lashes.

The eventual winner, who receives £10,000, will be chosen by a panel of experts at a ceremony on 4 September.

Organisers say they still expect Winehouse to attend the show.

Video no-show

Meanwhile, the singer's latest video has had to be filmed in her absence.

She sings lead vocals on New York hip-hop producer Mark Ronson's single, Valerie.

But producers had to get a cast of extras to take her place at the video shoot, which took place in London this week.

Although tabloid reports claimed Ronson was furious at her absence, film-makers told the BBC they had known all along that Winehouse would not be able to appear.

Ronson produced half of the tracks on Winehouse's album
