August 3, 200717 yr Oh bugger. This was so bad back in 2001 - I worked for MAFF (Defra after) then. Now that I have moved on to natural England, I hope I won't get involved again. I wonder if Operation Hornbeam (the contingency plans for another outbreak) will prove useful now?
August 4, 200717 yr this could yet again be very serious, with potentially thousands of animals being put at risk. itll be interesting to see where the outbreak came from. on top of the appauling weather this year, this is just one more thing that will push up food prices. inflation looks set to rise, not a good thing.
August 4, 200717 yr Author It looks like it's been caught earlier this time according to some. Hopefully this is the case.
August 4, 200717 yr Bit scary considering I live within 10 miles of this farm! But hopefully its been caught early and it won't be repeat of 2001!! Love, Kirsty xx
August 4, 200717 yr It's not what we needed after all of our floods and things!! All of the horse shows/competitions which had been postponed until now because of the floods now have to be cancelled because of Foot and Mouth...! I don't look forward to more scrubbing in out and out of the farms. Having to disinfect ourselves by putting straw soaked in disinfectant all over the place. But the worst thing is - some people won't bother with these precautions - which is how it spreads!
August 8, 200717 yr Guess what... They are blaming humans for the latest outbreak  Well, scientists at a local lab which was working with F&M to be more accurate :P
