Cassidy was released from the city's Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on Thursday, according to his label.

Cassidy was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 22-year-old Desmond Hawkins, as well as two counts of aggravated assault and possession of an instrument of crime.

The rapper turned himself in for the murder in June 2005, just as his sophomore LP, I'm a Hustla, was being released. He has been incarcerated since that time.

“While I am eager to resume my career as a recording artist, writer and performer, I am also eager to be reunited with my family, friends and fans," said Cassidy, in a January statement to the press. No word has been given yet on a possible release date of Cassidy's next album.

He is now on parole for an unspecified length of time.

I thought he was going to be getting about 5 years

In all fairness though, he had a gun in his house, for protection reasons (as most rappers do) and someone else took his gun and shot someone dead, and it's all of a sudden his fault?

American justice system gone wrong

exctly , and he handed himself in innit

He shouldn't have to hand himself in anywhere, he didn't pull the trigger, he did nothing wrong, it is all completely wrong <_<
