This thread took ages to find

The album was played on Radio 1 today. Out of the songs I've heard, my faves are definatly Robbie's brilliant take on Lola by the Kinks, Foo Fighters doing 'Band On The Run' and the Sterophonics with their great version of You Sexy Thing. I definatly think I will be getting this on Monday. B)

I will be getting it as well.

However, I expect it will be like the NME's Ruby Trax's various artists album from 1992 celebrating the music weekly's 40 birthday, there will be more bad cover versions than gems.

The best track I've heard so far is:

Robbie Williams - Lola

Robbie's is quite decent. :o It's a bit Oasis (which I can't stand) but it's listenable. ^_^
Natasha's cover of Ray Of Light is amaze. :o

It's bloody awful and she murdered it imo, and I don't even like the song much to begin with. -_-

And I don't see what is Oasis-like about Rob's version of 'Lola'. It has a rockier sound to it, so sounds more like his older material. I can't see Liam singing Lola at all though

:o I love it! It really makes her voice seem distinctive, much better then Fadge (Im gonna start getting use to using that word  )

And I dont know, it's just... very brit-pop.

I think it extremly dull and lifeless and the rawness of the original is gone. The original was more rockier, whilst this is just to annoying. She has a better voice than Madge, but this version lacks most of what made the original such a classic. Besides, you thinking it's better than Madge would be very easy. If all she did was fart you would say it was better than madges version.

And yes, I supose 'Lola' does have a type of Brit-pop sound to it in a sence. It is alot more rockier, it makes the original sound like a ballad

^ I agree. her voice fits perfectly with that song. though it still can't top Tracy Chapman's original

i got this yesterday and its not been out of my music system type cd player thing!!!!

these are my faves from the album:

1972: Sugababes - Betcha By Golly Wow (The Stylistics)

1975: Kylie Minogue - Love Is The Drug (Roxy Music)

1976: KT Tunstall - Let''s Stick Together (Bryan Ferry)

1977: Franz Ferdinand - Sound & Vision (David Bowie)

1979: Mika (vs Armand Van Helden)- Can''t Stand Losing You (The Police) weird, but it works, in an odd kinda way...

1983: James Morrison - Come Back & Stay (Paul Young)

1984: The Gossip - Careless Whisper (George Michael)

1985: The Pigeon Detectives - The Power Of Love (Huey Lewis & The News)

1986: Lily Allen - Don''t Get Me Wrong (The Pretenders)

1988: Mutya Buena - Fast Car (Tracy Chapman)

1991: Groove Armada - Crazy For You (Madonna)

1993: The Kooks - All That She Wants (Ace Of Base)

1994: Mark Ronson - You''re All I Need To Get By (Method Man/Mary J Blige) :w00t: one word...stunning

1996: Klaxons - No Diggity (Blackstreet)

1998: Natasha Bedingfield - Ray Of Light (Madonna)

2000: The Fray - The Great Beyond (REM)

2001: Girls Aloud - Teenage Dirtbag (Wheatus) theyve made a rubbish song sound brilliant!!!!

2002: Maximo Park - Like I Love You (Justin Timberlake) again, rubbish song made brilliant!!!!

2004: Hard-Fi - Toxic (Britney Spears)

2005: The Enemy - Father & Son (Yusuf Islam/Ronan Keating)

2006: Corinne Bailey Rae - Steady, As She Goes (The Raconteurs)

this album is awesome, probably the best compilation ive bought this year

i still stand by my promise to refuse mcfly's c**p cover, heard it on chris moyles and nearly cried...in pain at the travesty theyve commited

Some of the tracks on this are really good, others are just awful. :\

Mark Ronson's cover is great but my favourite is The Kooks. James Morrison's cover is also very good. ^_^

I can't work out whether Mika's track is a stroke of genius or the worst piece of music ever though.

Mutya's is by far the best imo

So amazing!!

Top marks from me go to Mutya, Natasha Bedingfield, Mark Ronson, Kylie and Girls Aloud!

Funnily enough, we over at Culturedeluxe have an altogether different opinion of the album. I haven't listened to all of it yet, but three things stand out so far.

1. Mike Skinner has destroyed Elton John.

2. I actually LIKED a song by The Feeling!? What the hell?

3. Maximo Park's version is the best I've heard so far...unlikely to be beaten.

mutyas cover of fast car is too die for

ye thats my fave from the album

How did the Kooks remake of All That She Wants turn out?? I <3 Ace Of Base so im curious to know!
