I agree it's getting tiresome, but new developments seem to arise every five minutes

tbh ive half a mind to close this thread (but no doubt tip would overrule me ) as people are getting over involved in the whole case. all the opinions being aired are based on nothing but flawed evidence and half truths.... it is getting very silly, and isnt acheiving anything, the threads going nowhere.

I disagree. It's probebly the most active thread ever in this forum, with great arguments etc, and who knows, something could emerge tomorrow clearing the McCanns of all, or charge them. It only seems to be the apperent evidence that they did do it that is flawed and constantly being proven as being so with each claim. This is the biggest news story there has been in years, so I don't think it should be closed. Someone will probebly set up a new thread if it gets closed anyway

And this thread is VERY sensible compared to those on the Mirror's forum. The people on there seem to be completelly over the top beyond belief and not very inteligent. Most seem to really actually hate the McCanns, and strike me as being very sad individuals. Most are planning to boycott the 'Virgin' brand because of what Richard Branson has done and are calling him sick etc, and how they will never fly or buy anything Virgin again, I mean honestly. do these people have no lives ffs.

im more concerned about the quality of threads rather then the quantity, it may be the biggest ever thread in here but most of it is utter nonsense (i include myself in this criticism too)

Personally, if it was my call I'd close this thread and bar any discussion about the McCann's guilt or innocence.

It is one thing arguing the toss over whether a record/artist is good or rubbish, who should play in X position for the National team, who should have got through/been eliminated from a Reality TV show.

But I find it very disturbing how anyone can argue in black or white (a deliberately un-PC terminology to annoy Scott) terms over the guilt or innocence of the McCann's with regards her death? (as opposed to her disappearance where I think everyone is 100% agreed that they were beyond irresponsibly stupid to leave the 3 children in an empty unlocked holiday apartment) when in reality it is a varying shade of grey.

I've spent months on newpaper forums and can tell you that most people there are convinced they're behind Madeleine's appearance. I'm convinced too and just hope they don't get away with it. If they had one ounce of humanity left in them they'd tell the police what happened to her body. I believe it was all preplanned too as they no longer wanted Madeleine any more.

Oh, well if most people think that then you better take the view too. -_-
No it's my personal opinion. I thought it from day one, before joining any newspaper forums. My wife and elderly mum laughed at me but now think they did it too. The police wouldn't name them suspects without very good reason. It's a big thing to name parents suspects in a child's disappearance. The problem is proving it. Why don't they volunteer to take a lie-detector test then? Come on Gerry and Kate, you're innocent so prove it with a polygraph test, 98% accurate. Branson will pay for it I'm sure. Jeremy Kyle may even pay.

ok... this thread is going around in circles, its going nowhere, so i will close it.

if any global mod thinks its best left open and overrules me then thats fine, but until theres anything to actually DISCUSS as oposed to speculate then its served its purpose.

any new thread started will have to have something new to say, until then, forget this.

Topic opened again, because I disagree with Rob, this is probably THE most fertile debate we've ever had in this Forum with a wide range of opinions and views.... Like it or not, this is the biggest story out there, we HAVE to have this discussion....

However, any posters who are getting a bit out of order and start crossing the line into slanderous territory will get warnings and individual POSTS will be deleted. I see no need to close the actual topic itself when all we really need to regulate are the one or two individual posts which may cross the line....

You have been warned folks - keep it within the boundaries.....

Oh, aren't YOU so adult TiP...?? <_< THe only thing that annoys me is your innate childishness tbh mate, and your continued ridiculous labelling of me, and your insistence that being Anti-Racist somehow equates to "political correctness" (whatever that means..), the Tabloids would be SO proud of you.....

Getting to the point though - I didn't hear you advocate any kind of censorship when we were all "speculating" about Michael Jackson's innocence or guilt during his child abuse trial.. Seems to me that everyone and his dog had an opinion about that one as well....

We didn't close down any topics concerning that, so I see no reason why we should close a very fertile and active topic on this particular time's biggest media event. This is what we do on the "Perspectives" forum, we theorize, we speculate, we discuss....

But, where I do agree is that we have to be incredibly careful about anything the media says...

Acording to todays Sun the judge in the case is looking to over turn the portugies secracy laws that are surrounding this case. I dunno how true this is but i don't think this is a good idea to be honnest.

I don't either actually...

It really disgusts me that the papers are all having a go at Portugal as a society, when in fact, as Russ has already pointed out, we in this country could learn a hell of a lot from them in the way that they treat their own people generally, there definitely seems more of a community spirit in Portugal, something we in this country used to have, but totally lost somewhere along the line...

I agree. Just because she's not crying on TV every day these days, people say she's not grieving - and if she was, they'd no doubt say she had some 'attention seeking disorder' -_-

Oh please, it seems bloody obvious to me that Zeus is totally spot on, Gerry and Kate are the WORST attention seekers imaginable... Did you see the parents of Holly and Jessica or Sarah Payne go around having tea and biscuits with the Pope in the full glare of the media??? No, they brought attention to their situations in a far more dignified manner than the McCanns.. And just what the hell was the point in those sodding Cinema adverts??? A kid goes missing in PORTUGAL, so we'll put up cinema ads in BRITAIN.... WTF?????

but to do that we need FACTS, otherwise its all hot air. gossiping for the sake of it. this thread has become a nonsense, and we have all fallen into its spell. i cannot see what point there is speculating over what may or may not have occured when everyday discredits previous evidences. id suggest that for idle gossip, this thread should be moved to the lounge!

I dont call the posts that people like Zeus or Thisispop are putting up to be "hot air" at all, and it's their well-argued, well thought out posts that are sparking much of the debate that follows.. I disagree, "Perspectives" IS the place to have this, because the debate has evolved into so much more than it being about one missing kid.... In The Lounge, it would just get lost in all the noise and irrelevant spamming....

I dont call the posts that people like Zeus or Thisispop are putting up to be "hot air"

but it IS if its based on flawed evidence, if the ever changing facts are wrong then anything based on them is hot air.

i fully agree though that their (zeuss, tip) well researched, intelligent posts are what the forums about, but they are getting swamped out by kids discrediting or not understanding the points made.

You can't close the thread just because "kids" are not making as many valid points as older posters, or are not fully understanding people. This IS largely a teen forum after all. How about you stop arguing about closing the thread and leave it to carry on. It was a fascinating read until it was closed.

it was getting very silly, when people who dont fully comprehend posts made they clog it up, and if we dont know the FACTS its all speculation anyway...

perspectives isnt largely a teen forum, most posts are made by 20+ aged people.

I meant the site as a whole ;)

Speculation can still create discussion and imo whether it's based on facts or not this forum needs somewhere to discuss this case. It's a bit silly to continue debating its closure though, just leave it :P
