Asked about executions of homosexuals in Iran, Mr Ahmadinejad replied: "In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country."

Reacting to laughter and jeers from the audience he added: "In Iran we don't have this phenomenon, I don't know who you told this."

Pretty much spot on... But essentially I feel that the only difference between the fundamentalist Muslim crackpots who run Iran and the fundamentalist Christian crackpots who run America is that the nutters in Iran they do stone them to death legally, but in America the nutters there would sure as hell like to, but tend to leave it up to vigilantes and lynch mobs.... -_-

Let's not pretend that as a culture America is actually any less homophobic than places like Iran... If a top celeb comes out of the closet, sure they dont get stoned, but their career sure as hell takes a nosedive, just ask Ellen De Generes or Anne Heche.....

Views like this will never change imo. Its society and thats the way it is.
the usa is as bad as any state that stones homosexuals 2 death, they prefer 2 do it illegally and if its a celeb through the papers ruining their careers

Exactly.. Maybe in Iran, they assassinate gay people, but the US assassinates the character of the Gay Community, and that pretty much has the effect of 'destroying' someone anyway, you'd may as well put a gun to their head and pull the trigger....

I had a very enlightening conversation with a really liberal sunni Muslim guy from Afghanistan that I worked with a few years ago.

He said that there were a LOT of bisexual Muslims who would swear blind that they didn't have homosexual tendencies.

He said it was a common belief especially in Shi'ite Iran, that you weren't homosexual as long as you were the one giving it and not taking it.

He said it was common in towns and villages for there to be 1 or 2 "homosexuals" that a lot of the males would "visit" where a blind eye was usually turned to the practice as it was usually pretty secret and fairly underground.

He said that it usually stopped once the man got married.

If it continued after marriage this was a sign that a man was gay and it was then it became an "abomination" (his words not mine)

and something was usually "done" about it if religious councelling didn't work.

He said in most cases it did stop once married but there were usually a few where it didn't.

It must be soul destroying to have to marry, have kids and have sex with a woman when you really aren't hetrosexual.

It would make you a really unpleasant person to be around I'd imagine.

So the President might be right if this interpretation of what is homosexual is there belief.

I think the same happens in the UK, to be honest - apart from the religious conselling bit after marriage ;)

A Iranian official has claimed Ahmadinejad meant to say "We don't have as many homosexuals as you do" or something. Anyway the Iranian media claimed the question was asked by evil Zionists who hijacked the meeting, blah blah blah

Anyone who pays attention to what happens in Jerusalem during Pride every year knows that it ain't the Muslims rioting, protesting and beating people up... it's the orthodox Jews...

Hollywood certainly is rather paranoid of giving roles to gay people...definitely behind the times... but theatre, television and music industries are a lot better in this regard. And anyway your examples don't really work because Ellen DeGeneres is immensely popular and one of the highest paid females in the industry... and Anne Heche... well, she's a bad actress  And anyway she's married to man now, I think...

Plus, there is a HUGE difference between assassinating someone's character and ASSASSINATING SOMEONE. Not that I would ever defend or justify either...

it's pretty ironic that we have a dwarfy little man denigrating homosexuals when he looks like something from a 70s gay porn film, don't you think? ..... he looks like something Freddie Mercury had parading round at one of his legendary parties in a gold thong with a tray of drinks strapped to his head :D :D :D

And as for the jews creating hell during Pride in Jerusalem... what about the Catholics creating havoc during the Pride festivals in Poland and Romania...?

And the Christians attempting to hijack this year's Manchester Mardi Gras in Britain? (they were frightened away eventually by a gang of flag-waving brutish muscle-Marys :D  )

Well, I think he's retarted. But, America is really bad with it as well, so America is almost the same with not recognizing homosexuality.

Yes and the Eastern Orthodox Christians in Moscow too...

Oh to be gay and have all the world's major religions united in opposition to your very existence... wouldn't change it for the world!

But didn't Ellen De Generes' popularity plummet after she "Came Out"... I seem to remember her show being cancelled by the network....

Yeah her sitcom only lasted like another season and a half... though mostly because the producers dropped everything funny and enjoyable about the characters and dialogue and it became a show fixated on Ellen, the lesbian. She's not Rosie O'Donnell - self-riteous and loudmouth about her sexuality. So the format didn't really work.

Her greatest triumph has been achieving the status of popular comedian, talk-show host and TV personality... not BECAUSE she's a lesbian or DESPITE the fact she's a lesbian... but just because she's great!

The reason they don't have any is because they effing hang them. -_- *sighs*

(Yes, that was sarcasm. Obviously they still have them, but they do treat them like $h!t. And they did hang two men for being gay a while back).

It is pretty pathetic comparing stoning a person because of his sexual preferences to a bad comment on an artist´s work on a magazine. It´s laughable the idea that a gay celebrity in America cannot be popular. Just look at Elton John and his shows that are usually watched by thousands of old and conservative americans, who enjoy his music despite probably disliking homossexuality. Just look at all the hype surrounding Brokebak Mountain and many other movies and TV shows related to homossexuality. Yes, it´s pretty pathetic to compare life in USA to life in an islamic conservative country. I am sure that 99% of iranian, arabi or pakistani homossexuals would give anything to live in USA, and this cliche speech of "USA is as bad as _____ (insert any 5th world medieval country)" souns like adolescent reaction of "I hate my own society" type, even tough nobody would like to trade it for life in Saudi Arabia or other places where you can be charged for kissing in public. And did anyone remember that homossexual artists also run the risk of not being talented just like any average heterossexual??? If Ellen whoever´s show is not very sucessful and Elton or George Michael´s album bombed, it´s not necessarily related to them being homossexual, maybe it´s just because people thought their last material was $h!t. The media happens to destroy someone´s career too, but it´s not a privilege of homossexuals, remember Mariah Carey in her Glitter era... It´s not the first and will not be the last time that someone has a period of sucess and then bombs.

The idea of a "Gay community" existing scares me as much as the possibility of "heterossexual males" or "heterossexual females" communities ever existing. Communities are based around cultures and not sexual preferences. Have you ever thought that all this "gay pride" parades not necessarily represent everyone that is homossexual??? Most homossexuals I know do not walk around in beach clothes in the middle of the street, or wear like Cher/Kylie Minogue, and I know more then one homossexual person who gets embarrased when seeing this type of demonstration on TV being shown as a "Gay community" manifestation. There is no such "gay community" in the real world, as if everyone who shares the same sexual preferences where forced to think and act exactly the same, and build a whole culture around it. In fact, many times people who speak in the name of the "Gay community" are doing a huge harm on homossexuals image. But still, if you want you can wear like Cher and dance in the middle of the street representing the "gay community" and not be bothered to being stoned or hanged or something like that... So complain as much as you want about USA... as if Europe itself wasn´t the grandmother of all USA ideas and culture... And as if the rest of the world was much more open minded to accept the different, as if racism and homophoby wasn´t much more common in 3rd world undeveloped countries...
