Posted September 30, 200717 yr GCap brings Hit 40 UK in-house 28 September, 2007 Independent production company Somethin’ Else will end its four-year association with GCap when it stops producing the Sunday afternoon chart show Hit 40 UK, after GCap decided to bring the show in-house. The new show, hosted by Capital DJ Lucio and broadcast across nearly 120 radio stations in the UK, will be produced by GCap programme director for digital content Pete Simmons. Somethin Else' will continue to produce commercial radio dance chart, Fresh 40, although there will be greater involvement from Kiss parent Emap. GCap head of network sales Kirk Vallis says, "Somethin' Else have done an amazing job, but at the moment we are not capitalising on GCap's expertise and resource," "There are so many different forms of music in the chart, no one has the level of resource in all the different music genres as GCap, with stations such as Choice, Xfm and Classic FM. "If someone comes in for an interview [with Capital breakfast DJ] Johnny Vaughan then the producer should be there grabbing an interview for Hit 40 UK,” he added. The owners of Hit 40 is also expected to change, with GCap and Emap expected to take over the reins. Hit 40 is currently run by Hit 40 Ltd, with representatives including GCap, Emap and Global, which also has responsibility for Fresh 40 and the A List. Gcap and Emap are expected to take over the Hit 40 chart; Global will concentrate on the A List, while Hit 40 UK Ltd is expected to be folded into the Radio Centre. Before Somethin' Else started to produced the show at the end of 2003, the Hit 40 UK was made by Unique Productions for a decade. It was previously known as the Pepsi Chart. Source: MW
