October 9, 200717 yr Why make this just about Arsenal? Spurs only had 3 Englishmen out in their last game, and as you were talking about Englishmen in the original post i won't mention Keane and Bale, so that is only 3. I know that's not the best argument in the world, but as i've heard and said time and time again, it's not Arsene Wenger's job to create good players for England. Liverpool don't have many either. Only Gerrard, Pennant, Crouch and Carra are likely to start. Like it's already been said English players go for over inflated prices; take Darren Bent for example and this is all because he's English. Football is a business and football teams will buy the best players they can whether they're English or not. UEFA have already put measures in place anyway with homegrown players although they're coming in gradually.
October 9, 200717 yr Yes, you have some great players. Don't know about your youth academy. I wolud like to See Spurs win the Uefa Cup, Boro, West Ham or Villa win the FA cup or Spurs of course and out of the big 4 i would like to see Man u win the league. Showcasing British talent throughout. :) Yes. Mido is English. So is Julio Arca. And Mark Schwarzer...
October 9, 200717 yr Yes. Mido is English. So is Julio Arca. And Mark Schwarzer... Shall we look at the game just gone for Boro ;) Middlesbrough: Schwarzer, Young, Riggott, Woodgate, Taylor, O'Neil, Boateng (Sanli 46), Rochemback, Cattermole, Downing, Craddock (Hutchinson 59). Subs Not Used: Turnbull, Shawky, Wheater. an English back 4 :o plus another 5 played, not to mention the two on the bench ;) only Tuncay, Boateng, Schwarzer, and Rochemback were the foreign players who played with little Shawky the other non Englishman ;)

I am just stating that Arsenal NEVER play any British players in the English Premiership. As Matt said look at Boro 7 - 8 British players. OK Spurs have some Frenchman, i admit, but we do play English & British players all the time. Robinson, Gardner, Dawson, King, Bale, Lennon, Huddlestone, Jenas, Routledge, Keane, Defoe, Bent and other players in the reserves should they be needed. Now let me name some English starting players for Arsenal. Theo Walcott - Now & again. If it was just because i was a Spurs fan then i wouldn't be cheering on West ham to do well and i wouldn't be praising Arsenals football. I just want to see a team win the premiership that plays English players even if it is just a few rather than none at all.

Why buy a mediocre English player for £5 million when you could go and get a plauer who's twice as good for the same amount of money? There's no logic in it when you're a football manager. If Arsenal were doing bad in the Premier League and had a whole load of English players in the team, the fans wouldn't just say "it's okay if we don't qualify for Europe this year, because we have English players", fans want to see their football teams do well. Of course it's nice to see English players playing in the team, but the realism is if they're not good enough or they cost too much they why play or buy them when you can find better talent?
October 11, 200717 yr We had Jenas (English) out injured, King (English) out injured, Bent (English out with illness) they are all first team regulars so to say we don't bring on English talent is rubbish, a fully fit first XI would include 7 English players at Spurs Dawson, Robinson, King, Jenas, Lennon, Defoe, Bent/Huddlestone Then add fringe players like Danny Rose To compare us with the gooners is utterly absurd Edited October 11, 200717 yr by Vic Vega

October 11, 200717 yr And there's also no way that Defoe and Bent is a 1st choice front two. Don't bet on it Berbatov wants out so he will be gone in January or next summer and Bent will be his direct replacement and all it takes is Keane to get injured and Defoe and Bent will be regular partnership
