Posted October 14, 200717 yr Gordon Brown became embroiled in a new tax row last night as secret plans to introduce a levy on pub quizzes were revealed. Confidential orders to council tax snoopers, obtained by The Mail on Sunday, say 'friendly' pubs with quiz nights, football teams or dartboards will be forced to pay higher business rates, which will pay for Labour's public-spending programme. The plan, which could lead to big tax rises for bars deemed 'popular', was last night condemned by the Tories, who claimed it could lead to landlords cancelling quizzes and other social events. Source: Mail on Sunday Wonder if this will put Rob off his pop quizzes

October 15, 200717 yr I'm checking my calendar to see if this is April 1st..... Because this has got to be some kind of joke...... -_- Just what I was thinking! Most will stop doing it, it's not like pubs charge anyone for doing the quiz all they make is a bit of a profit on alcohol.
October 15, 200717 yr What a joke! how long until they want to implant chips in us and charge for every metre walked on footpaths :/
October 15, 200717 yr Typical "New" Labour, want to control everything and tax everything :manson: Yes, quite unlike the Tories who stealth taxed our take aways, heating/lighting and phone calls.... <_< Dont make out the maggots you vote for are any different Craig...
October 15, 200717 yr Typical Daily Mail non-story. Someone from any political party says "what if?" and next thing it's a scare story in The Daily Misery. Ho hum.
October 15, 200717 yr Next they will be taxing your pet dog, to let it go out for a walk, mind you poo tax comes to mind.
October 15, 200717 yr A good rule for stories like this is to see whether other news outlets follow it up. So far, they haven't. That suggests that the story is utter rubbish.
October 19, 200717 yr Grrr! Why? All they care about is money, i don't like them and i don't really have anything valid to say because i'm so pissed off. It's not even like they use the taxes for the right things, Iraq instead of schools etc you seen the state of them? Just terrible!
October 19, 200717 yr A story in the Daily Mail about an alleged Labour tax proposal. I think I'll treat this propaganda with the contempt it deserves, until a proper independent news source runs with this story....
