I think Leona may hold on and prevent them the spot. I think she'll sell another 80,000 next week. The SG need to sell a lot of physicals, because their downloads are surprisingly low.

  • 3 weeks later...

Out of 117 people, 2 were right...

I just can't believe how badly this did.

Wahay  Love this topic, especially Kelly saying "people who don't say #1 have a screw loose"
This topic is to be TREASURED as the one time BJ got everything so badly wrong :o
No matter HOW good or bad the new Spice Girls song was ever gonna be, it's pretty much confirmed it'll get to #01..

Anyone that doesn't say #1 (despite the quality of the track not being excellent) surely has a screw loose. They will be #1 based on their name alone.

So, who has a screw loose at the end?

im still in shock that this wasnt number 1, let alone missing the top 10, i cant believe it............

Totally shocked and disgusted with the sales.

I wish they didn't release the album first and also I wish they didn't release the song 2 weeks before (if only they released it with downloads last week, it would have sold 28k and enter no: 3).

.

There are no excuses but you have to believe that lack of promotion played a major role.

Yes they were hyped but they didn't do any promotion apart from CIN.

They didn't come on Friday night with Jonathon Ross, National Lottery, X factor/Strictly come dancing or even Paul o Grady.

Think about it, most artists that are doing well such as Westlife/Girls Aloud/Take That promoted so much and even when you look at their last single in 2000, they performed on CD;UK, TOTP, National Lottery and did several interviews. PLUS, it was a double A-side with 2 singles, 2 videos and it came out 2 weeks before the album (full of new material). The song went to number one because they promoted it, and the album forever didn't cos they didn't even promote it. I remember Westlife (Pestlife as I call em) nearly killed themselves with every single day's worth of signings and going to every city via helicopters etc.

You have to work hard and promote the record; you can't expect the song to do well without it.

Plus people don't like the song and the video (saying how inappropriate their dress code is due to CIN)

Like I said, there shouldn't be any excuses but just read what I wrote....I could be wrong.

Oh come ON now. A few weeks ago everyone was hyping this to be #1 on downloads alone and it missed the top 10 on physical week. It's a Spice Girls comeback, it got okay promotion i.e. extensive video play on music channels and Radio 1 felt obliged to bother with it enough to put it on the C List. It flopped because it really is that awful, even being the official CIN single couldn't aid it.

If this was a new album with new material, it would probably rival the 'success' of the All Saints comeback last year.

No way it would have done well.

All Saints promoted it so much but failed with the album (and I really like that album).

I did say a lot of people dislike the song and but I like it alot.

Why are people still slating this song, it's a pretty good ballad at least it's not a cover version and they haven't promoted it that well at all being in the States and sales on singles and albums are suffering but when they are back over here and a few Christmas specials lined up sales will go back up. Girls Aloud are number 1 on iTunes downloads for single and album knocking Leona off I hope they get rid of her this week

I agree with you on everything.

I think GA will do well because they promoted it so well and the song is fantastic (shame they didn't co-write it).
