Posted May 14, 200619 yr It's balladeers and RnB acts. Artists that owe something to Mariah and/or have been touted as direct competition. I've not included Madonna or Kylie because they've been going for longer and there's next to no similarity between their music and Mariah's. Even though they hate each other... Jennifer Lopez. My self-made 'Best Of' for her is awesome. Two of her albums are filler-free and wonderful. Even the bad ones have some gems.
May 14, 200619 yr Really tough decision for me, I adore the lot of them besides Norah, all extremely talented in one area or another... I shall choose later, I am guessing it will be out of: Christina Aguilera Jennifer Lopez Whitney Houston
August 2, 200618 yr Whitney and Celine hmmm it's tough. They'd be the biggest competition voice wise where with sales it's always Madonna... The rest of the list pffft  My favourite is Whitney  She may be a drugggie but her songs are beautiful.
August 2, 200618 yr Author celine dion but she's been around longer as well. Has she been successful for longer though? I know she did Eurovision and was very successful on the continent but did both those things happen before? Mariah Carey released her first single in 1990. Whereas Celine's first English-language hit was 'Beauty and The Beast' a few years later. Please correct me if I'm wrong. In terms of this poll I was going for divas (Kylie and Madonna are huge pop acts but they're not known for their vocal acrobatics and/or diva demands and that's why I didn't include them) rather than just women. Celine's big voice and successful ballads make her an obvious diva.
August 2, 200618 yr Author But Tim, no Diana Ross, no Aretha Franklin. :o I didn't think of them as direct rivals as their best years were decades ago.
August 2, 200618 yr I've always had a thing for Brandy, even though she hasn't released anything in quite a while, but still, BRANDY
