I'm FINALLY downloading Opiumroz, having waited about two years for it

And I could never do the 9 week release ban...what would we do with songs such as Quicksand, which was released the day after it won! Being on the release schedule has nothing to do with being known...

It would be too hard to monitor as well, having looked on iTunes (or rather downloading it :kink:), 'I'm Going For Your Brother' was released as a digital single two weeks ago, so could have been on some release schedule somewhere, not that I'd ever heard of it before :heehee:

I think there should be a rule about the language. Like a country has to send a song NOT in english once every 5 contests or something. Otherwise its really boring with 95% of the songs being in english, not similar to Eurovision at all, as there its usually more balanced. Plus people just get in the comfort zones and dont take risks

I don't think that rule would go down well at all considering the uproar when the foreign language spin-off was done

it would seem that a lot of BJSC participants don't listen to or like any foreign music :o

I really like this idea.

I'd love to see several rules changed, to make it more challenging as to what could be selected by a country .......

However, others would (validly) argue it would make the contest too complicated/confusing, and create more hassle for the mods/host nation, and make the contest less enjoyable.

Exactly my point.

But that was the point of the foreign spinoff as far as I understood it, and considering only about 3/5 of the regular countries competed, it wasn't a major success, and nothing like a regular contest. I know because I came second :kink:

I really like foreign songs, but I don't really see the point of entering them because they rarely do well. So I just find a song I really like that is sung in English. :P

^That's the arguement against the idea although i like one. I've sent 3/14 foreign languages songs sung in swedish, turkish and russian. The first 2 DNQ'd and the latter came last (only because there was no SF yet :P ) I can't imagine myself without listening to foreign music.

Technically, I have sent foreign languages songs 13 times out of 14 :kink:

edit-- woops, i can't count :kink:

I have sent 9/9 foreing languages songs :P

Question: May we already say which song will (most probably) represent us next edition? ^_^
Sure, go ahead, but you have to be there when the reservation thread opens, or sometone else could steal your artists (I found that this time )

Ai  I have something in plan for next edition that no one else will send anyways (I am the only one holding an mp3 and the artist is totally unknown) :teresa:
That's cool then, go for it. I wish I could find more entries like that, most of my entries I pick from European charts :heehee:

My entry will be kind of a "Cliff Richard versus the Young Ones" thing  I've made the mp3 of it today  *and no it's not me*
Hmmm, ok, sounds interesting :kink:

sounds um... yeah :P

With regards to the foreign language thing - I think the idea of us having a spin-off every so often is to remove everyone from their comfort zones and get them to find some good new music which wouldn't necessarily be entered into the main contest. This makes the spin-offs less popular but equally as appealing for the hardcore BJSC contestants who like a challenge. I'd therefore say no to this rule suggestion but would encourage people to keep their suggestions for a next spin-off coming in!

You do have to keep in mind the proportion of people who compete that have english as their first language and live in a country where you hear very very little music that isn't in englsih.

And with respect to ESC, we have been try to separate the two contests for some time. The only thing we share with the ESC is the voting system.

I agree with Tom, the reason we have spin off's is to encourage people to send something they wouldn't normally. And through that we complete an aim of the contest [introduce people to new music] and eventually we will end up with a more diverse set of songs as membership grows and the music taste of those involved evolves.

Out of interest, would there be any objections to the placing of a tarriff upon either posts or membership time before somebody joins the BJSC? (I.E., they must either have been a member of BuzzJack for three months or have something like 300 posts before they can join the contest). This would probably cut down the risk of aliases as well as limiting the amount of countries joining up (which we're ever aware of seeing as we have to come up with a contingency plan in the event we breach 54 countries in a contest :P). Does anyone have any protestations against this?
I dunno, it would cut down on aliases, but some established countries have joined us without that critieria. I would expect Dalisska, Tinnmark, Deandria etc. had less than 300 posts and three months membership before signing up here.
