Maybe this track will finally get a deserved UK#1 position....... 41 years after Emperbert Humperdinck stopped a run of 18 consecutive UK #1 hit singles by the fab four... December 5, 200717 yr GOLDFRAPP!!!! though getting a number 1 album would be a push considering this is supposed to be a return to felt mountain's sound. i'd love for them to try though! there shouldn't be too much competition and of course, madonna! let's hope the timbaland/neptunes collaborations don't fall flat
December 5, 200717 yr New Feeder album, that should get a good sales record thanks to the sucess of the singles album, and looking forward to the tour. Jimmy Eat World's tour New album by The Verve Edited December 5, 200717 yr by Marcus
December 5, 200717 yr Mariah I'm hoping for big things for, though more in the US than in the UK. I would love her to get another UK #1 single though! :(
December 5, 200717 yr In terms of bands that have already released material before then the only ones i'm really looking forward to is Arctic Monkeys and then Alex Turner + Miles Kane's stuff. There's loads of music coming out that interests me but I dunno how good their music will be, as there's been lots of poor comebacks this year! New music however; Hadouken!, Foals, Black Kids, The Ting Tings, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, The Ghost Frequency shall be big next year methinks.
December 5, 200717 yr So will The Beatles actually release their back catalogue digitally then? I thought Jackson owned it? I think he had to sell it to pay for the court cases. (I may be wrong, though.)
December 5, 200717 yr So will The Beatles actually release their back catalogue digitally then? I thought Jackson owned it? Michael Jackson owns (well he has sold half his stake in) the publishing (songwriting royalties) of the songs, not the actually musical tracks which would be owned by the Beatles record label Apple, licenced to EMI. So that means he can decide whether the Beatles songs can be used in TV adverts, agree to artists covering the songs or not (i.e. on X Factor you have never heard a post Beatles Paul McCartney song or a David Bowie song because they both despise Simon Cowell and have therefore refused him permission for acts to perform their songs which they own the publishing for. Even more ironically Simon Cowell's two favourite sings of all-time Unchained Melody & Somewhere Over The Rainbow are owned by Paul McCartney's publishing company MPL, so you could argue Paul is a hypocrite on that respect); but he can't grant permission for the actually tracks or music to be used in the said scenarios. One of the most heavily rumoured reasons for the delay in the Beatles back catalogue going digital are due to The Beatles were waiting for Michael Jackson to become bankrupt, so he would loose the ownership of the Beatles publishing, as he gained them through apparently unethical means: Back in the early mid 1980s he was a very good friend of Paul's (having recorded the duets "The Girl Is Mine" & "Say Say Say" & Paul & Yoko were trying to buy the ownership of the publishing of the Beatles songs having agreed to pay the asking price of £40 million. But Paul (stupidly) told his friend Michael about this, who then went through his lawyers to activate an outbidding clause in the buying contract (where a third party won the rights to ownership if they bid £5 million more than the Beatles related attempt) and bid £5 million more than Paul & Yoko combined so gaining ownership of the Beatles publishing company Northern Songs, which ended Paul & Michael's friendship. It also explains why Michael Jackson was/is hated by real Beatles fanatics long before other lurid allegations were made about him in the 1990s....
