January 9, 200817 yr Newcastle have parted company with manager Sam Allardyce. The club, currently 11th in the Premier League, said the decision had been reached by "mutual agreement". Allardyce, who was in charge for just eight months, said: "I am disappointed to be leaving Newcastle but I wish the club all the best for the future." Former captain Alan Shearer has been strongly linked with the post but chairman Chris Mort said: "A new manager has not yet been appointed." First team coach Nigel Pearson will take charge of the team for Saturday's Premier League meeting with Manchester United. Allardyce took over at Newcastle in May but he has come under increasing pressure this season, culminating in a run of three straight league defeats over the festive period. His last game in charge was a 0-0 draw at Championship Stoke in the FA Cup third round on Sunday. from BBC Sport Over reaction much
January 9, 200817 yr Absolutely terrible decision. You've gotta ask questions about this owner too, I mean he literally has NO idea at all how to run a football club! Sacking your manager during the transfer window? Talk about making the situation worse. I can understand Newcastle fans being unpleased at the results but the squad they have on the whole is terrible, and their best player is always injured so Big Sam didn't really have much to work with. The club needs stability. As for the next manager; Jol? McLaren? Mourinho (at a long shot)? Will most likely be Shearer I expect...
January 9, 200817 yr RUBBISH decision. Big sam is an AMAZING manager, clubs these days just dont give managers enough time. Ferguson was on the brink of being sacked in his first season, look at him now. Managers sometimes need time to adjust to a new team.
January 9, 200817 yr Utterly ridiculous decision. A club needs stability, you ask any club that's done well over the past decade and stability is the key (big 4, Everton, Wigan, Charlton...).
January 9, 200817 yr ....Oh well, it looks like Alan Shearer has said he wants the job to the chairman. I hope Newcastle now get what they deserve = Relegation.
January 9, 200817 yr ....Oh well, it looks like Alan Shearer has said he wants the job to the chairman. I hope Newcastle now get what they deserve = Relegation. I can't see it but I do agree. I now couldn't care less if they went down. I do hope Steve Gibson & Niall Quinn see sense.
January 9, 200817 yr Author Completely bizarre decision by Ashley, Allardyce's stlye of play is not pretty but he has been there not even half a season and they are ahead of us in the table, most bizarre decision to sack a manager since Real Madrid sacked Capello when they were in 2nd place in La Liga, ANY manager needs at least 2 years in the job There is more chance of Stephen Hawking winning Strictly Come Dancing than there is Shearer leading Newcastle to glory
January 9, 200817 yr i guess the fact it was mutual ( sacked more like) means he can still say he's never been sacked -_- Newcastle may have the worst squad they've had in years but look at the players he brought in  He only seems to know one style of play and if it doesn't work he gets showed up and is exactly why I didn't want him as England manager after Sven.
January 9, 200817 yr ....Oh well, it looks like Alan Shearer has said he wants the job to the chairman. I hope Newcastle now get what they deserve = Relegation. Ah well Newcastle fans, get ready for life in the championship
January 9, 200817 yr Harry Redknapp's odds are shortening fast, but why would he want to leave Portsmouth for Newcastle, unless he is slightly insane?
January 9, 200817 yr Don't like Newcastle, can't stand Allardyce but it's a ridiculous decision. Ashley had no record of being intersted in football let alone Newcastle before he took over. It's one big ego trip for him. I hope they appoint Shearer or McClaren and end up in the conference within five years.
January 9, 200817 yr Harry Redknapp's odds are shortening fast, but why would he want to leave Portsmouth for Newcastle, unless he is slightly insane? Agreed. Redknapp has made it pretty clear he doesn't want a job too far from his home in Dorset. Newcastle is about as far as you can get from Dorset without leaving England.
January 10, 200817 yr Agreed. Redknapp has made it pretty clear he doesn't want a job too far from his home in Dorset. Newcastle is about as far as you can get from Dorset without leaving England. I'd be very suprised if he took it too. Jusr about everyone who's out of management work [well, minus Roder and Souness!] and is a big name person is being linked with the job. I know Shearer has said he doesn't want it, but if my eyes, he's the only candidate for the job. The fans want him and this owner guy will want to impress the fans, and what better way to do it than getting Shearer on board.

The fans want him and this owner guy will want to impress the fans, and what better way to do it than getting Shearer on board. Apart from appeasing the fans what are the benefits in giving Shearer the job ? he has no experience of management whatsoever, a job on the scale of Newcastle needs to be done by an experienced manager, Shearer would be a disaster for them
January 10, 200817 yr I wouldn't say it had to be an experienced manager. Just one who's proven his worth as a manager. I think they need look no further than Gary Johnson at Bristol City. If there's a better manager outside the Premiership they've slipped my mind. Failing that, either Boothroyd or Dowie. These are the type of managers Premiership clubs should be appointing. Young, talented and British. Not some has-been or some foreigner with a large pay packet!
January 10, 200817 yr Author The Newcastle job though is one of the most high pressured in the country if not the most high pressured, the expectations of the fans make Spurs fans patient by comparison, 30,000 turn up at St James Park for the unveiling of a player, the fans expectations are such that they need a manager who is used to handling pressure, has extremely thick skin and knows how to win trophies and that is not something a small club manager like Dowie or Boothroyd could handle or a rookie manager, they need someone who is used to delivering at clubs with big expectations and appointing Shearer would lead to massive celebrations In Sunderland
January 10, 200817 yr How do you know they can't handle it? It's giving them jobs like this that will prove they can. Otherwise they will always be at a small club. Glen Roeder was hardly a big name. I'm sure 90% of fans would've preferred someone like Dowie to Souness when he was appointed. If there's even any truth in the rumours that the fans want Shearer then I don't see why someone with proven credentials shouldn't take it, albeit at a lowe level. Talks of the likes of Lippi or Mourinho going are nothing short of ridiculous. Edited January 10, 200817 yr by RabbitFurCoat
January 11, 200817 yr the problem with Newcastle is they think they're bigger than they are  There is a reason why they haven't won anything except a glass plate (Intertoto ) for 50 plus years ^_^
January 11, 200817 yr It doesn't matter who comes in, they need "miracle-worker" to be the main part of their CV, followed up with "able to work with a team that always seems to have mass injuries, and fans with really unrealistic expectations" Seriously, why sack Allardyce, Newcastle are 11th in the League, which is about right for them. They simply aren't good enough to finish much higher than that, if anything they will end up even lower, as i expect Spurs to pass them sooner or later.
