I hope Redknapp hurries up and moves. I'm getting worried Mark Hughes will be lured over there! :arrr:
if Redknapp goes there it's obv for money :( What he's achieved with Portsmouth and the team he's built up has been great, taken them from the relegation zone a couple of seasons back, to pusihing on the European door, seems a little odd to leave it all behind, for a club with a worse squad and in a worse position

I agree, but then again it's a win-win situation for Redknapp. He's not getting any younger and Newcastle will pay him loads, and even if he fails like Allardyce he can just retire back to his home on the South Coast. But Fat Sam worked mircacles with Bolton on a small budget, and when given a bigger budget he failed, but in his defense the squad he inherited is terrible on the whole. Which ever manager takes over Newcastle needs to re-start the club from square one tbh.

I'd be surprised if Redknapp took the job. I think he's too attached to his Dorset home. Of course, as a resident of Dorset myself, perhaps I'm biased.

I think the whole deal is sewn in the bad personally. The owner has given a huge hint that they're after Redknapp, and they'll want the deal done as soon as possible, who knows, Redknapp might not even be in charge for the game on Sunday...

Well Redknapp called off a press conference this morning, which was ironically to say he was staying at Pompey, because he was at Newcastle

*** NEWS ****

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has turned down an offer to succeed Sam Allardyce as Newcastle manager.

Redknapp was Newcastle's number one choice but after reflecting on it overnight he decided to stay put.

"I had a great offer to manage a fantastic club. It was a terrific opportunity but I had no intentions of wanting to leave," he said.

"I have a job to do to take this club forward and to walk away would not have been the right thing to do."

He has put this squad together and he wants to take them to another level

Peter Storrie - Portsmouth chief executive

Redknapp, 60, was immediately installed as favourite to take over at St James' Park after Allardyce was dismissed on Wednesday just eight months into his rein as manager.

Despite public denials from Portsmouth that any contact had been made by Newcastle, the club reportedly gave Redknapp until lunchtime on Saturday to make a decision.

Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie admitted he was "very worried" Redknapp would leave.

"It has been 50/50 for a few days," Storrie told BBC 5 Live.

"Last night I thought it might be going slightly the other way but we met up this morning and with a bit of verbal persuasion he has decided to stay."

Storrie indicated that Redknapp felt he still had unfinished business at Fratton Park.

"This wasn't about finance, this was about ambition," he said.

"We have come such a long way over the past two years and if we can repeat that over the next two years then there is still a long way to go.

"He is loved by the fans and has put this squad together and he wants to take them to another level."

Redknapp will now take his side to Sunderland on Sunday but Newcastle are left searching for new suitors.

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes was one of those linked with the job but he has distanced himself from the post, despite being installed as the new bookmakers favourite.

Other names linked with the job include former Toon striker Alan Shearer, Martin Jol, Jose Mourinho, Italy's World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi and former England boss Steve McClaren.

BBC sources close to the 37-year-old Shearer, though, say he is extremely unlikely to take the role as he is happy with his pundit work on Match of the Day.

Magpies assistant boss Nigel Pearson has been put in temporary charge for Saturday's match against defending champions Manchester United.

Redknapp shows some common sense :cheer:

I know Steve McClaren is desperate for a top flight job :kink:

While I wouldn't wish McLaren on anyone he isn't a bad club manager

Did very good job for Boro in the cups and taking them to UEFA final and so on so even though he is a $h!t England manager he isn't as bad as people make out

he even got us to finish 7th in the Premiership before that run to the UEFA Cup final

Newcastle would never hire McLaren. Their owner has publically slated him.

No idea who they'll go for now...maybe Mark Hughes?

I totally agree. Where have all those people disappeared to who slated Sven Goran Erikkson as England manager?

As for Harry Redknapp, maybe his son's contacts tell him a job at Merseyside may be available very, very soon......

Bet they wish they'd kept him now

no chance it would have been 6-0 at half time :kink:

Cacapa makes Titus Bramble look like a god :w00t:

A quick stat:

Average lifespan of a Newcastle manager - 18 months.

As above, but remove Keegan - 9 months.
