She's back in April with a new album :D With the lead single being a double-A side featuring "2 of Hearts" (a cover of the 1986 Stacey Q song) and "Songs Remind me of You" on the reverse.

For those who don't know/remember Annie she released "Anniemal" back in 2004 to a fair amount of acclaim:

"Heartbeat", the top 50 SMASH:

"Chewing Gum" the top 25 SMASHSMASH:

And of course her net favorite "Me Plus One".

Hopefully her return will be good. More Scando-pop ( ;

^ You are so Godly, an M.I.A., Santogold, Bonde do Rolê, CSS and Yelle fan. Which are essentially my 5 main artists and now Annie.

:heehee: 'Heartbeat' is the cheesiest thing since Scooch's first stint tbh. But I do have quite a big soft spot for it. :w00t:

"Heartbeat" is so not cheesy? It's all to do with her boyfriend who died when he was 23. Nothing cheesy about that really =/

yeah JAKE totally, its an amazing piece of lush electronica...i think its to do with that problem in music criticism that says that only music made with guitar can seen as a credible form of music expression and that all forms of electronic music is cheesypop (not 'credible' dance music but that dance associated stuff thats not really danceble )...electronic music artists should get more credit (and i will include Annie away from cheesy pop because the context, as always, is important - as with many types of indiepop - see also I'm from Barcelona, St Etienne, Lightning Seeds) - rather than using a fricking retarded oh so you love the 1980s - synthpop - S/A/W mentality, so this Electronic stuff must be cheesypop type c**p that we can only enjoy with irony.

It is an excellent song from what was an excellent album, what Annie really manages to excel at in her music is the ability to connect emotionally with her lyrics. Tinges of melancholy are evident and you really get the feeling she knew this person she sings about on "Heartbeat" for example and of course she did...

I agree too TB that electronic music is associated with cheese. I think it ties into people not viewing music in any contextual form at all. Merely judging the song on the music//stereotypes (as people seem to with Annie) when in fact her story/scene/image/videography etc really adds to her and her music and makes her a multi-dimensional artiste.

yeah context is always important when viewing any thing like this

for example without the context of what was happening at the time a punk song Anarchy in the uk just because just another rock&pop/pub rock song, something that could be about Fred Flintstone for all we care, but because there was a social context its v important to rock&pop history/culture.

also like what was said by the music critic in the guardian about the 00s (Alexis Petridis)

it is in fact t many 'manufactured pop acts' that are the ones creating the most intersting music when indie rock can be just quite staid and not really progressing

obv this is not true for every pop act, but groups such as girls aloud...some of their songs are as far away from an easy mainstream pop mentality than most of mid 1990s britpopper for example

Musical innovation has been left to predominantly black genres, be they R&B in the US or the multifarious offshoots of garage here, as well as the more forward-thinking pop producers - it's one of the weirdest quirks of noughties music that manufactured pop artists such as Britney Spears or Girls Aloud have ended up making more sonically interesting records than their more earnest rock counterparts (Guardfian media)

Lol, I always think the same thing when I see the music you post :P

I only really know the two Annie songs you posted though, I never bought her album in the end. I think she's got the potential to be big this time round though, especially with Robyn riding so high at the moment.

Did anyone manage to explore the sublime Annie and her album from a few years ago? Absolutely stunning, real adventurous and experiemental but being completely accessible pop simultaneously. It's a real shame she never got catapulted into the lime light, but according to wikipedia (yes, I am all too aware of it's unreliable stigma), she is currently working with producers Xenomania (Girls Alouds permanent producers) for an album due at some point this year!

This is very exciting news and I'm thrilled it isn't just me that thinks her time is still to come?

Oh yeah, sorry I didn't notice a topic had already started.

I think these polished singer/songwriters (a la KT Tunstall, Amy MacDonald) are fast becoming as teadious as the usual run of the mill rubbish X-Factor churns out! I think it's about time we had a splurge of kooky, European female singers to throw a spanner in the works. I think Robyn has given a new confidence for major labels to sign these talented artists that have something fresh and dynamic to offer.

Apparently, there will be a duet with Girls Aloud on the album!

I find her music to be a sea of average-ness, and I so don't get why people orgasm over her tbh *.*

I'm excited about her collaboration with Franz Ferdinand. :o

Worried about the Girls Aloud duet. =/
