A cat farting into a microphone with a disco beat laid on top is probably above Cascada.... :P

if a cat farting into a microphone was remixed with a disco beat laid on top and got maximum airplay from the hits and daytime radio would it be #1 next week?? do people download anything that they've heard on the radio/tv a million times or is there a thing such as personal taste anymore??

if you could buy maximum airplay (and yeah in some cases you can) would you be #1 however bad your record is?

LMAO, what is this doing in the chart forum

Flat Eric.

Anyway I do kinda see your point tigerboy, especially after Leon Jackson got to #1. Surely anyone who has ears would dislike that song?! :(

well, Fergie seems to get away with it no problem... :P

Aww, I love Flat Eric.

No first it needs Radio 1 to worship it. Then people will buy it.

Indeed, it needs some kind of patronage - DJ, product, puppet!

Although Colin Murray going mad over Malcolm Middleton's single didn't help it get any higher than number 31. Although I guess if it had been a week later and sold the same number it could probably have been top 10 in the quiet period.

Nope, it would have been lower...the week after xmas was the biggest singles sales week for decades in the UK

How do such utter spam threads be allowed to get this far?

Well as one of the moderators of this forum I certainly don't object to this being here because it IS a relevant point about the current UK chart music scene albiet presented in a weird way and could equate to some interesting discussion.

could an annoying frog making motorbike noises with the beverly hills cop theme tune in the background get to number one?

psh, no way, what a stupid idea that would be.

Could an annoying poster post a random picture and some ridiculous rubbish stemming from the fact that their taste differs from what's in the charts, and still get away with it? *Ponders*

Firstly, it isn't a random picture. That puppet released a song in 1999 that reached #1 on the UK charts off the back of an advert for Levi's and is used to back up the original posters point.

Secondly, it's a relevant point IMO. Just because you don't agree with it does not make it 'ridiculous rubbish'. Just to clarify why I'm not locking it. :)

Anyway if this topic descends into argument than I will lock it. But we'll see. ^_^

I say: yes! Everything depends on promotion: lots of airplay, TV ads, and the c**p quality of your music will definitely help your record to be Nr.1... :yahoo:

Well a Scottish teenager, who could not manage to sing in tune throughout the entire series.... who did a bad cover version of one of Mariah Carey's & Whitney Houston's worst songs in their back catalogue got to #1 for three weeks thanks to a sob story and promotion on a so called talent show.

Hell, even a winner on a dancing competition is a better singer than him.

In fact you could say it is "scandalous":

Guess which one of those two is going in the studio with the Neptunes in March to work on new material?

The Neptunes haven't been confirmed; nobody has yet.

Since Soulja Boy was No2 (I believe) in the Christmas chart - and the fact that January usually sees sh!t songs being released - probably.

After all, if this can outsell this 4-1, who knows?

The Neptunes haven't been confirmed; nobody has yet.

??????????????

She confirmed she is working with Pharrell Williams when appearing on the Richard & Judy show last week after discussing how much her prior dancing (ie. in the video of N.E.R.D. - She Wants To Move video.)

Let's face it, it will be a million times better than the $h1t that the new Steve Brookstein will come up with next.

Still I loved Richard referring to Leon Jackson as "It would have been like Kate Garraway winning Strictly". That was a classic quote, just summing up the ineptitude of all those gullible idiots who vote for the Scottish teenager who could not sing to save his life.
