Parts of it are getting a bit out of date don't you think? Do you think maybe it's time for at least a re-branding of it  I absolutely LOVE it myself and thought last night was probably the best ever one but in order for it to be as big as it used to be maybe some changes need to be made like maybe to the rules to stop the countries voting for each other as an example (but then again how can we do that?)

People don't always vote for neighbours though... If that were the case Russia would wipe the floor EVERY year as they neighbour so many countries. Finland won becuase their song was memorable and good. It proves that if the UK put in a STRONG entry which is a GOOD song it will do well. The reason we always do $h!te is because we always enter $h!te simple as...

Went a bit OT there and wasn't really aimed at your post but anyhoo....

Well I get what you mean ;) I know not EVERY country votes for their neighbour but it does happen a little too much but luckily not necessarily affecting who wins... Finland was the best song and so it won and people are starting to download it already with it being #18 on iTunes and if we did enter something worthy like that then we WOULD win but the embarassing thing is we're one of the few countries who TRY to win and we fall flat on our arse every year.

There are a few that always vote for the same like Germany always vote for Turkey because of the huge amount og Gastarbeiter(sp) that live there.... Though Portugal didn't even give Spain a single point so not everyone does it.

Maybe the UK should split into Norn Irn, England, Scotland and Wales. Then we'd do better

Lordi have proved that it is the song and the performance that wins the contest. Neighbourly voting allows the Balkans to mid-table and they'll never get nul points but they won't win either unless they have an amazing song :-)

If Lordi were from any other country that country would have won...nobody's ever bothered voting for Finland before now...

The political voting is blindingly obvious, but it never effects who the winner is.

I think the UK should no longer be one of the main funders and try to get through from the semi-finals, thereby making it look like we want to compete, and having to get through will (hopefully) make our standard of song better

None of the other songs in Making Your Mind Up would have done any better...

We need some amazing and unique songs next year...Daz is halfway there but I can understand why it didn't connect...

True, no-one has but look at where Finland's votes can come from:

Scandanavia - Sweden, Norway, Iceland and then the Baltic countries they are next to - Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Then they join onto Russia too. 12 points from each of these would automatically put them in a strong position. They did however have a memorable song.

You gave a fab point in another post about Mel C going for it. She would do well for us, she might not win but she'd do good.

Half of Europe know who she is and she's not doing much else atm is she? We would even get 12 points from Germany! :o

Realistically though, Mel C wouldn't lower herself to that level

Or Sandi Thom ;-)

Why do we always give points to Germany and never get any back :-0

Beacuse the UK had a cringeworthy entry ;)
