Lily cartoon aims to improve skills

An animated film featuring singer Lily Allen and indie group The Levellers is to be launched in a drive to encourage workers to improve their skills.

The 10-minute film, featuring cartoon characters, will highlight the work of trade unions in tackling the UK's skills crisis, by urging people to go on training courses.

Unionlearn, the skills arm of the TUC, said it wanted to publicise the efforts of 18,000 union learning reps throughout the UK.

Unionlearn director Liz Smith said: "Through showing this DVD at events such as Glastonbury and other music festivals we will be able to encourage people from all walks of life to consider how their unions can help them with their education.

"There has been a quiet revolution in the workplace, in which trade unions and union learning reps are helping to improve the workforce's skills, which benefits employers, individuals, and the economy."
